Get ripped in this first official image of Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine

09.24.2012

One of the most anticipated films of 2013, THE WOLVERINE, starring Hugh Jackman as the titular "runt" now has an official image, which is decidedly darker and definitely more ripped than we've seen of the character thus far.  Directed by James Mangold (3:10 TO YUMA), this sequel to the underwhelming X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE is pulling from the comic book limited series by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, which finds Logan in Japan, dueling with love, honor, and of course, samurais and ninjas.

Get ripped:

It seems to me that Jackman's appearance as the character has evolved with each film the character appears in, with this current image being the peak of his physical conditioning and overall presence.  The actor has a lot of passion for playing Logan and thus far has been the saving grace of each film he appears in as Wolverine. Based on the behind the scenes bits we've seen so far and now this official image, my own confidence in the film has grown exponentially.

THE WOLVERINE, starring Hugh Jackman, Will Yun Lee, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rila Fukushima, Hiroyuki Sanada, slashes to theaters on July 26, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: What's your favorite appearance by Wolverine in film thus far? I'm torn between X2 and Origins (even though there's much to hate, I still dig Jackman in the film).

That's a damn sexy man, but...

I sure wish there were picks of him at his peak during the 6000 calorie a day diet just before filming when Aronofsky was attached. He said the goal was for a tight, compact "Mike Tyson" type build. I just wonder how swol he got then. Regardless, he's an amazing Wolverine and Bryan Singer did a damned good job finding this guy to portray him. Even though he's always been too tall lol

It's Tyler Durden with cutlery ;)
Looks like it could be a cool movie though, with a bit of luck.

One thing is for sure Hugh definitely brings the goods as Wolverine! He was the best thing about the last movie, and I look forward to seeing a trailer for this new one!

Someone's been working out

Short haircut looks cool. His physique shows his commitment to this character. From X-1 up til now, he's been one of my favorite actors in and outside the Wolverine role.

Looks good!

The hair is fine, looks better for film anyway. And he's had short hair in the comics before, so stop "splitting hairs" over it. Hahhaa.

Despite the track record of Marvel films, I'm cautiously optimistic with this. Still a bit disappointed that Aronofsky didn't get to tackle it, but no complaints about Mangold (or the hair).

And Jackman...stop showing off, man. You're making the rest of us look lazy. Then again, I can't blame him; his abs have abs, for fuck's sake.

He is more ripped because this is supposed to be a younger version of Wolvie, so I'm totally fine with that. They should only know him as Logan-Son. Also I don't have a problem with the hair. It's not his signature points but who gives a crap. It still looks messy and unkempt and that's good enough for me. Last....I'm not gay but that is one fine man.

Avengers and the Xmen

How fucking sweet would it be for Disney to acquire all the rights that way Wolverine could appear in phase two of the Avengers or phase three. Even better, how cool would it be to have Fassbender appear as Magneto. Nothing would make me happier then to see Wolverine tie into the Avengers somehow after the credits roll on Wolverine 2. Spider man would be cool too, but I'd rather have Wolverine.

Looks awesome, just not Logan-esque

I'm still hip to this. The hair has a little bit of a point to it, maybe you can't see it because of the lighting. But Logan is a small, bulky and hairy guy. This looks nothing like that.
But I just take all of that the same way an artist changes Logan's appearance in the comics. They are all similar but different.
This still looks like it's going to rock and be the most epic Wolverine movie yet!
Let's hope this movie shows the birth of Daken!

Awesome

Yeah, I don't know what to think of the hair. One the one hand it's a shame to see that visual aspect of the character vanish, on the other hand I don't know how you explain the hair since I can't imaging Logan having a high maintenance hair-do.

his hairdo becomes more and more normal with each movie. not bad though. i was rewatching x-men 1 last weekend and logan's comicbooky hair (though faithful to the original drawings) made me chuckle a little.

I don't have a definitive favorite Wolverine movie, there are parts in each that I adore. in X-Men 3 (which sucked) the moment where Storm accuses him of loving Jean Grey and he doesn't deny it... closest thing Wolverine should get to saying he loves someone in my opinion. X-Men 1 was great in that he was such a dick. I loved it. Whatever, I agree that he is the best part of most of those movies.

It looks like he toned down a little since Origins, though he is more ripped now...
and this is sounding more gay with each word.

Jackman looks great! I'm also glad they got rid of that dumb Marvel (pointy hair) hair cut too.

Well that's the best hairdo I've seen on him yet. It would have been nice to see the hair big and pointy like in the comics. But they sure didn't quite get that right in the first films, it looked too much like a mullet with hairspray. If this new film is as trim and spiky as his new do we're in for a treat.

Looks great. However, does he look slimmer than usual? Maybe it's just the lighting in the picture.

Considering he's 43 that's impressive but would it kill him to do the pointy hair?
