Getting to play Daredevil in Infinity War would be a dream says Charlie Cox

01.21.2016

The films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may influence the direction of their television counterparts, but Marvel's television series have never really had the chance to cross back over to the feature-film realm, which is a shame, as there are some great characters played by some great actors who could easily make the jump to a big-screen Marvel film. Marvel and Netflix's first pairing, Daredevil, was a big success, and its star, Charlie Cox, recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the possibility of his character finally appearing alongside Captain America, Iron Man, and the rest of the Avengers in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.

Marvel TV and Marvel Studios are two very different things. So even if the character were to appear in that film, that doesn't necessarily mean that I would appear in that film. I will pick a fight with the guy that they choose!

Even though both the Marvel film universe and the Marvel television universe are the same thing, there's a considerable difference behind the scenes. Last year a fairly major power shift went down at Marvel, with Marvel Studios and its president, Kevin Feige, now reporting directly to Disney studio chief Alan Horn instead of Marvel Entertainment CEO Isaac "Ike" Perlmutter. Marvel's TV division wasn't part of that shift however and thus still falls under Perlmutter's control. Even though they're technically all under the Marvel/Disney roof, this makes organizing crossovers all the more difficult. AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR directors Anthony and Joe Russo spoke on just that very subject last year:

When we start to serialize the telling of stories it's difficult. You have to have a lot of control and focus on the course of history. The films are controlled by a group led by Kevin Feige, so they function as a unit. Other products, even if they are from Marvel, are controlled by others. Then there is the possibility of a crossover, but it's more complicated. It is a smaller scale version of the problem that exists when remembering that Fox holds the rights to some of Marvel's most popular characters, as does Sony and others. As storytellers, we only have control over what happens in Marvel movies, but everything is possible, Spider-Man became possible!

Despite the difficulties, I have a hard time believing that Marvel would ever recast Daredevil for the big-screen when they have Charlie Cox already doing such a great job. It's still too early to say for certain which Marvel characters will pop up in INFINITY WAR, but Joe and Anthony Russo have mentioned their desire to expand the story-lines of the secondary characters in the two part AVENGERS epic, and although that most likely means characters like Scarlett Witch, The Vision, War Machine, etc, I'd like to think that Charlie Cox's Daredevil could have a role to play as well. For his part, Cox says that he has not yet received a call to join up with The Avengers but added that it would be "the coolest thing ever" and "a dream."

Would you like to see Marvel's television characters crossover to the films in a bigger way, or are the films already overcrowded?

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - PART I will hit theaters on May 4, 2018 and will be concluded on May 3, 2019 with AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR - PART II.

I’ll get shot down for this, but f**k it…

The reason I so love Netflix’s Daredevil is the fact that they have kept it plausible – real – an absolute gem for an adult. But to team Daredevil up with Thor: God of Thunder from bloody Asgard and Co., all that credibility will be lost, and Daredevil will just become yet another silly fantasy kiddie character. That’s why I won’t be watching any of this current reboot of Spider-Man, despite the promising casting, and Spider-Man being my all-time favorite. Teaming him up with the Avengers will cause all credibility to be lost in every way, unless you’re seven. I know it happened in the comics, but what about all the kids who grew up reading Spider-Man comics and are now adults? We’d love to see our favorite character being treated to an adult interpretation on film once in a while. Do the Carnage story properly, for instance. Something in the vein of the 1999 Matrix, the first two Terminator films – something sensible. With today’s science, Peter’s abilities could be explained in a realistic way. Thirteen years of kiddie Spider-Man films – I’ve had enough! So please, don’t change what you are doing with Daredevil. It’s perfect as it is. I would very much love to see Charlie Cox’s Daredevil on the big screen though, but not in yet another children’s fantasy film. Put him in the unbelievable Avengers and that will be my Netflix subscription cancelled. Leave Daredevil alone pleeeeeeeez!!!!! It’s the only real, sensible thing out there!!!!!!!!!!

The man can act (See Boardwalk Empire for confirmation) so he's primed and ready to crossover to the big screen.

Would love for the Netflix shows to have one episode showing what the likes of DD, JJ and LC were doing during the Battle of New York. It would be pretty unlikely that they didn't try and help if the chance presented itself. How hard could it be to have them fight some Chitauri soldiers that came their way...oh did the entire fight take place right in the central part of NYC...that specific area where Hulk performed that punch to end all punches?

the battle itself was actually contained to only a few blocks, som eof it may have spilled over into hells kitchen, but its been mentioned several times they were able to contain the battle. (that was basically Iron mans job) to contain it and take any threats and lead them back into the killzone./

Ah yes, true... but it would still be nice if at least one of them played some kind of part in this. Heck, I'd take a Chitauri shooting at Cage as he is with his wife...only to be gobsmacked that he didn't die. Before Cage escapes with his wife, he takes the Chitauri out.

Does anybody know when Jessica Jones Season 2 is going to start filming? They were able to start filming Luke Cage while still working on Daredevil Season 2. They wouldn't have to wrap production on Luke Cage before starting Jessica Jones, not unless the Luke Cage character figures prominently in Jessica Jones Season 2. Of course, that then begs the question: will Daredevil be in Jessica Jones Season 2? Does Daredevil cameo in Luke Cage? I could imagine maybe six episodes of Jessica Jones

I could imagine maybe six episodes of Jessica Jones working by herself and then the last seven episodes could be a team up. Remember we were promised that we would be getting a team up and its been delayed because Iron Fist hasn't been cast but in the meantime we have Elektra Natchios, Misty Knight and Patsy Walker. It's up to Melissa Rosenberg if she wants to set things up for The Defenders in 2018.

I'm okay with Marvel's TV characters to cross over to Marvel's Movies as long as it doesn't feel forced or for the sake of having such characters in the scene.

Marvel Studios has done very well at appeasing their fans and connecting their stories. Thats where their success comes from. With Infinity Wars setting itself up to be in the running for biggest and boldest of all superhero movies ever, it would seem that this would be the best opportunity for them to hold nothing back. Daredevil was too well received to be ignored, as was Jessica Jones for that matter. It would shock me if they could work out a deal with Spiderman between studios, and

It would shock me if they could work out a deal with Spiderman between studios, and not include any of these characters. Daredevil would be the best choice of course, but from a story perspective, JJ not being included in the story somehow is almost a head scratcher. And with so many good choices made, I refuse to believe that these won't somehow be included. The MCU doesn't seem like one to take a risk at pissing off loyal fans.

It would be the height of coolness....

Can you imagine if Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, Vision, Scarlett Witch and Spider Man all fell to Thanos, only to see him distracted by a mere human (whose skills are all earned through hard work and talent) long enough for them to rally and beat him? I don't know if they'd go that route, but it would be epic!

Would love to see Daredevil, and Punisher show up in Infinity Wars if they have to choose one or two characters from the Netflix series.
