Ghostbusters 3 is a "no" for Emma Stone and a "maybe" for Jonah Hill

Dec. 4, 2013by: Niki Stephens

I'm more of the "don't care" side of GHOSTBUSTERS 3 since they have been so wishy-washy about the whole thing. Dan Aykroyd looks to be the film's biggest supporter then on the other hand you have Bill Murray supposedly wiping his ass with it (I think he actually shredded it but I think the other scenario is better). So I don't know.

For awhile all we got was story after story of Bill Murray vs. GHOSTBUSTERS 3, and frankly, everyone got tired of it. We could never grow tired of Murray but we just wanted some concrete news on the damn thing. What we've heard is that a script is being rewritten with Gene Stupinsky, Lee Eisenberg, and Etan Cohen as scribes. The plot, according to Aykroyd is this:

"It's based on new research that's being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University... Basically, there's research being done that I can say that the world or the dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence, length, height, width and time, become threatened by some of the research that's being done. Ghostbusters -- new Ghostbusters -- have to come and solve the problem."

Early last month, Schmoes Know said that their insider had it on good authority that Emma Stone and Jonah Hill were being considered for the roles of Anna and Jeremy, respectively. Who those characters are exactly, we don't know. But it seems that according to the same Schmoes Know insider that Stone is out:

"Emma Stone is passing on “Anna” but Jonah Hill still has an offer out for “Jeremy”. Interesting enough, Sony wants two big stars signed on or they will not green light the picture."

Do you guys want another Ghostbusters film? If so, who would you like to see in it aside from the original cast? What would the plot be? Let us know below in the strikebacks!

I'd be down for seeing another Ghostbusters flick. At this point I don't really care. They spent too much going back and forth on it that I've lost all interest. And that's saying something since Ghostbusters was the be all end all for me growing up.

Not really sure who I would want in the cast, the pics above seem to be going after the flavor of the month rather than trying to get someone that will truly carry this franchise. But I would get Jesse Eisenberg to play Egon's son.

If they cant get Murray they need to leave it alone or remake it

Peter- Ryan Reynolds is the perfect cast......if they cant get him maybe Seth McFarlane but Id rather have Ry Ry
Ray- Seth Rogan
Egon- Patrick Wilson, he's serious and has plenty of experience in the paranormal
Winston- Idris Elba of Thor, Pacific Rim

My Dream Line-Up...

Ahem...Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and whoever they cast as twentysomething Oscar. That's it, that's the team. Make it. I don't need new members that represent all cultures or body types (Kylie, Eduardo, Garrett and Roland seemed to cover all the bases) or a new nerd that is Egon's protege or the hot chick one who's smart but kinda goofy, or the smartass who goes toe-to-toe with Venkman or any of that bullshit. Original cast, original characters, amazing

I agree that it should be the original cast or nothing. That said, Extreme Ghostbusters was one of the best cartoons of the 90s.

This smells more like a re-boot or re-make to me...
Hollywood is not going to pass the chance to re-make a beloved franchise...those bastards!
Looking at the picture above... come to think of it: Woody Harrelson would be a great ghostbuster.

YES PLEASE!

Yes I want a new Ghostbusters, with an all star comedic cast! There's plenty of comedic actors who would fit the bill perfectly, just freaking pay them and do the damn thing! I WANT MORE GHOSTBUSTERS!

Just do it, Murray!

Come on. It's not like you have anything better to do. This would be a much better decision compared to when you decided to do two freakin' Garfield movies. >_<
Also no Jonah in my Ghostbusters, please. I think he's an entertaining actor, but he doesn't belong there.

As far as newcomers go I would pay good money to see Nicolas Cage in a Ghostbusters film, aside from that my top 5 would probably be Steve Carrell, Woody Harrelson, Christoph Waltz, Anna Kendrick and James Franco. If I fleshed it out to a top ten I'd also include Mark Duplass, Ari Graynor, Elijah Wood, Craig Robinson and maybe Rashida Jones.

No Murray...No Thanks

I really don't want to see a Ghostbusters movie without Bill Murray...he is the heart and soul of the originals and is frankly the only cast member that is still relevant or making funny, quality films. If they're going to do this how about Danny McBride? His interaction and reaction to ghosts could be hilarious and while not a huge star this could be his breakout role...Sam Rockwell would also be a great out of the box choice that could be hilarious and plays a good "Bill Murrayish" smart

But I would prefer they resist making this if Bill Murray isn't involved.

Ryan Reynolds is the closest we could hope to come to Bill Murray/Peter Venkman-ish. He has that sarcastic comedic quality

Woody and Jesse Eisenberg

I always thought the Zombieland trio of Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone would have made great newcomers for G3. Since Stone is out I'd say bring in , Elizabeth Banks, Ari Graynor, Anna Ferris or even Olivia Wilde. My favorite picks though for the 2 male newbies are still Woddy Harrelson and Ryan Reynolds. Put those two guys in a film like this together and you've got comedy gold. But as for Jonah Hill... NO! I felt like they picked names from a hat when trying to pick the

Smart move for Stone...

But she was never hotter than when she played Annie Potts.

I would love to see Ghostbusters 3

but you NEED to have Bill Murray, 20 something years later with guys as awesome as Murray and Aykroyd theres def a story they could make out of it, and I have no doubt it could be funny and stand up with the first two, but with no Murray I think theres no movie, it just wouldnt be right to not have his character (either by killing him off or writing him out). Honestly I feel HIll and Stone would be perfect to fit into the roles too, but things arent coming together and they will probably force

I like both Hill and Stone, but they're much better than what Ghostbusters 3 will probably offer as a whole.

At this point I really don't give a shit if Ghostbusters 3 ever gets made. In fact a huge part of me hopes it doesn't because it can only end up being mediocre at best given the current plan of execution. If this had been done in the mid 90s or hell, even as late as around 2000 and everybody had returned it probably would have been fine, but too much time has passed and The idea of bringing new Ghostbusters in for the actual plot of the movie is completely ridiculous and defeats the purpose. I can understand rounding it off as a trilogy with the original cast and maybe ending it with some new Ghostbusters coming in for training or something just to imply that it will go on but I'm not interested in seeing anybody except for the original four.

I agree. I just want a part 3 where it continues the story of the original characters. Those are the ones we loved and grew up with, I couldn't care less about new Ghostbusters. GB3 was really gaining steam around '99 and 2000 and the plot was about hell being filled beyond capacity and ghosts pouring into New York, it was a perfect idea. This new plot sounds like shit.
