Ghostbusters 3 may begin filming in Spring 2014, possibly with Jonah Hill and Emma Stone

GHOSTBUSTERS 3 is a project that I am sure people would love to stop hearing about. Sure, it would be fantastic if we finally got a true sequel featuring Dan Akyroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson, but the chances of that are slim to none. We already know Bill Murray is not coming back but that is not stopping Akyroyd and Sony from trying to make it happen.

Last we heard, GHOSTBUSTERS 3 was being rewritten for the third time but the financial troubles at Sony were causing delays. Now, we have two tidbits of news that, while not ironclad, definitely make it seem like the movie is finally moving forward.

Coming Soon reports that an unnamed Sony executive cited the film may shoot in Cleveland, Ohio.

“More movie projects are on the way. One being the sequel to “Ghostbusters” as Sony has penciled in spring 2014 date to start shooting the third installment here in Cleveland.”

This rumor comes on the heels that two roles have been offered to Jonah Hill and Emma Stone. Whether they have accepted is unknown. If the rumors are true, they will be playing the parts of Jeremy and Anna. Are these new Ghostbusters or secondary characters? That remains to be seen.

GHOSTBUSTERS 3 was drafted be Gene Stupinsky, Lee Eisenberg, and Etan Cohen. According to Aykroyd, the plot of the third film will be something like this:

“It’s based on new research that’s being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University… Basically, there’s research being done that I can say that the world or the dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence, length, height, width and time, become threatened by some of the research that’s being done. Ghostbusters — new Ghostbusters — have to come and solve the problem.”

If shooting locations can be pinned down in Ohio and shooting does in fact begin next year, that could mean that GHOSTBUSTERS 3 may hit theaters in an already jam-packed 2015.
