GI Joe: Retaliation helmer Jon Chu in talks to direct Masters of the Universe live-action feature

Jul. 31, 2012by: George Merchan

By the power of Grayskull, will the guy behind JUSTIN BIEBER: NEVER SAY NEVER and the upcoming GI JOE : RETALIATION be handed the keys to Eternia?

According to Deadline, maybe! Talks between Chu and Sony have just gotten underway as the director simultaneously prepares to shoot new material for his waaay pushed back GI Joe sequel (which is also currently in the process of being post-converted to 3D). If you somehow don't know what the heck MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE is about, it "revolves around He-Man, a prince who transforms into a warrior and becomes the last hope for a magical world that has been ravaged by the sinister Skeletor."

This is the same project that's been making the development rounds for years now (formerly and simply titled GRAYSKULL). This most current iteration of the project comes scripted by Alex Litvak and Mike Finch, the guys behind THE THREE MUSKETEERS and PREDATORS. Films like that don't exactly fill me with hope for this, but supposedly Litvak and Finch's script is pretty good. So we shall see...
Extra Tidbit: There was once a MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE script that was said to be great! They're not using it anymore (of course), but you can still read about it RIGHT HERE.

please!

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE should be a great mixture of science fiction and fantasy. There should be no Earth involved, no weird new characters or monsters and please make it violent and epic!

Please make this good - my number one geek thing is He-Man (which may be obvious by my name and logo), and I want it to be serious, and epic. No joke, if done correctly this could be my Lord of the Rings.

As long as they set He-Man and the Masters of the Universe in the fantasy world, say, something like The Lord of the Ring or Fire And Ice kind-of world, the movie should be an epic action movie.

My hopes

I hope it's more like LOTR than Masters of the Universe. I know it's been said but if done right, this could really be epic. I am trying to remain optimistic but with projects like this, Hollywood really likes to screw them up...

So, we'll see!!!

If Dolph isn't in this movie, I'm not interested.

I'm "hip to this news" but I'd much rather they went with someone else to make the movie.
Also, please give Dolph Lundgren the role of either Skeletor or King Randor (or possibly Trap Jaw...or possibly in a brief "history" of Eternia scene as He-Ro, k I've nerded out enough).
Chris Hemsworth as He-Man seems like a no brainer, might be too easy and uninspired a choice but I think he's perfect.
Then cast Pauly Shore as Orko, Cringer, Stinkor and Mer-Man. Just kidding about those last ones...or
