Gillian Flynn says there could be a Gone Girl sequel "at some point"

While chatting it up at the BAFTA LA Annual Awards Season Tea Party, GONE GIRL author Gillian Flynn told The New York Daily News she's open to doing a sequel to her hit book and movie. Flynn says if it is going to happen it won't be for a few years, and she would want director David Fincher and stars Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike involved with the project.

There could be a sequel at some point if everyone is game to get the gang back together, it could be really fun a few years from now. We could pick it up and see what those crazy Dunnes are up to a few years down the road and if they got on — not well I don't think. I would have to have the exact same people to do it — I would want Rosamund, Ben and Fincher to do it.

Although the way GONE GIRL ends (which I won't spoil for you here) leaves room for another movie, I'm a little surprised there's talk about a sequel. I think it's interesting Flynn doesn't specifically say it would be released as a film or book follow-up. Flynn did a great job adapting her novel for the big screen, and since she is also developing the upcoming HBO series Utopia with David Fincher, maybe she'll just write the screenplay for a movie sequel instead of penning a new Gone Girl book. What are your thoughts on a GONE GIRL sequel?

NO

Gone Girl is my new litmus test for whether or not I respect someone's taste in film. The movie started bat**it crazy and then turned bat**it stupid. I didn't care about the characters, found the plotting beyond silly, the plot holes gargantuan, and the ending uninspired. Ben Affleck stumbled through the first half going "Oh? Huh? I should be worried? Amy, well... she's Amy. Huh? Uh-buh?" The best part came when Kim Dickenson's character finallllllly comes around and is shut down with a "it

It just doesn't matter." Damn straight! None of this drivel mattered!

I think the ending wrapped up the story perfectly. That said, I'm still curious to see where these characters would be in ,say, 10 years on from the ending.

I'd love it.

As long as it is sufficiently twisted. A smart writer could make something great out of it. The happy couple plotting apawling things for each other.

Of course she's open to writing a sequel because she knows that, even if it sucks, that she'll still make a ton of money off of it.

The screen play wasn't that good. I enjoyed the book and movie, but they both leave a lot to be desired. Still though, stories so bat shit crazy I'd watch the sequel.

A sequel would be so damn dumb. She already went full crazy in the first one. To have her do something crazy again, or have Ben's character out-of-nowhere do it, would be stupid.

Although I feel it is truly a superb film, if the same talent was involved, meaning Fincher, Pike and Ben and they brought something new and original to the story, with the same caliber behind the first I would be all for this. I'd love to see the continuation of this sick and twisted union in an original light with Fincher behind the camera. Call me intrigued.

"Tyler Perry was so good in 'Gone Girl' that he has actually been asked to write and direct a sequel called 'Girl, I Thought You Were Gone."

No. Going to echo the crowd and said it ended excellently and needs no continuation. That last act was gut punch after gut punch; fantastically-crafted movie.

Film doesn't need a sequel. It's a great film and everyone involved did a terrific job (especially Pike). Just move on.

I think the movie ends perfectly and no sequel is needed.
