Gilligan’s Island headed to the big screen, people everywhere ask “Why?”

Wow, there’s a lot of porn that pops up when Google image searching “Ginger, Gilligan’s Island”. Leave “Safe Search” off (trust me, it’s not even good porn).

So according to Variety, producers Charles Roven (THE DARK KNIGHT, GET SMART) and Richard Suckle (EXTREME MOVIE, SCOOBY-DOO), along with Brad Copeland (WILD HOGS, “Arrested Development”) on scripting duties, will be bringing us the feature film version of the iconic 60s sitcom.

“Plans are for a contempo take on the well-known premise and characters, with the studio and the Schwartzes’ blessing Copeland’s initial idea for the screenplay. Roven told Daily Variety that he’s hoping to start production as early as next year but won’t move forward on seeking a director or cast until Copeland’s script is completed.

‘The characters are so good,’ Roven added. ‘We think it’s going to be a great story to transport these cultural icons to the modern day.'”

Word about a year and a half ago, when this project was first threatening to be made, was that Michael Cera and Beyonce Knowles were being eyed for the roles Gilligan and Ginger respectively. Variety doesn’t say whether that’s still the case or not, but… let’s hope not. Cast two fine chicks as Mary Anne and Ginger, sure. Cast, I don’t know, The Rock as Thurston Howell III. Then maybe we’ll see.

Oh, who am I kidding? F*ck this shit.
