Gladiators gets writer

Sooo this AMERICAN GLADIATORS movie is actually happening, huh? It was announced back in March and seemed like a ridiculous idea at the time but one that, like the once-planned BATTLE OF THE NETWORK STARS movie, would eventually fizzle out. But here we are, a good 8 months later and the AMERICAN GLADIATORS movie is actually making progress.

Peter Iliff (POINT BREAK, VARSITY BLUES) has signed on to write the screenplay for the film, the plot of which still remains extremely vague. Are the gladiators fighting each other? Some terrorist force that threatens humanity? 50-year-old Asian women from Orange County? Who the hell knows. The film is currently targeting a 2011 release, one year ahead of the Mayan’s predicted apocalypse in 2012.
