Glenn Close will play Nova Prime in Guardians of the Galaxy

07.23.2013

Glenn Close was cast in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY a while back and yet no mention of her character in the film was made at Comic Con. It was already known that she would be playing a member of the Nova Corps in a role akin to Nick Fury in S.H.I.E.L.D.. With GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY beginning filming today in the UK we now have confirmation that Close will be Nova Prime, the head of the Nova Corps.

Close is a phenomenal actress who showed her range in recent projects such as the phenomenal series DAMAGES and her transformative role as the titular character in ALBERT NOBBS. While Close will not be playing the Nova character we know from comics, this is definitely an introduction to the character possibly getting a spin-off movie in Phase Three or beyond.

Along with John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, James Gunn's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is being led by one hell of a cast. The story of an intergalactic squad of heroes may sound reminiscent of DC's Green Lantern Corps, I am sure that Gunn will bring a level of fun to this movie that was sorely missing in the Ryan Reynolds film.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY opens on August 1, 2014. Check out the full press release below.
