Godzilla Vs. Kong officially announced and dated for 2020

10.14.2015

You knew this was coming and today Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. made it official.

Godzilla will once again do battle with King Kong as part of a shared universe that has been in the works in recent months, GODZILLA VS. KONG is being set for a 2020 release date, following in the footsteps of KONG: SKULL ISLAND which will hit sometime in 2017 and GODZILLA 2 which will come ashore in 2018.

At the heart of each film will be Monarch, the organization we were introduced to in GODZILLA who are apparently seeking to expand their missions with each subsequent film. That, of course, can only mean more monsters. Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah are believed to provide a triple threat of opposition for the King of the Monsters in GODZILLA 2, but they appear to be nothing but a warm-up leading up the the big main event that we're now definitely getting.

The two behemoths have done battle in the past, squaring off in 1962's KING KONG VS. GODZILLA, in which Kong was the only creature to emerge from their crash into the ocean, making him the victor by default. 58 years later, we're now finally getting the rematch. Hopefully it all lives up to the hype.

If you go based on Kongs size in the remake, he'd go about toe-to-toe with 2014's Godzilla. To clarify Kong would be about as tall as Godzilla's toe. Ok, exaggerating a bit, but really he's essentially "Godzilla vs Bambi".
Are they planning to make Kong 350ft tall? If not, let's just make a "Rampage" video game movie instead.

What are they doing, this makes zero sense.
2020 is a long way out, so hopefully this is shelved.

Cool!

Im excited for any " VS" film, but isn't there a HUGE difference in size between those two?

Give it to a worthy director

If not, this will just end up on the forgetful list.

Ridiculously stupid idea....

They worked so hard to make a respectable Godzilla movie with a (semi) plausible backstory, now they're going to throw it away on a made for 10 year-olds idea of combining a 350ft tall fire-breathing lizard and a 50ft tall monkey? Seriously?

This couldn't be worse news. It will be decades before we see another attempt to make a cool giant monster/disaster film.

If Godzilla is going to be the same size, then we are looking at one huge ass Ape.

So is Godzilla going to be a steady, manageable size, or is Kong going to be switching between 50 and 7,000 feet depending on what the shot calls for?

I mean I'll see it either way.

I wasn't too impressed with the recent Godzilla movie. It was ok, but that was it. I really liked Jackson's King Kong, but I guess these new movies are separate from it? Hard to get excited about this, unless the upcoming moves are good. And some decent human characters that make a good story, otherwise this is just Alien vs. Predator all over again.

How were you unimpressed with the Godzilla movie, but you loved Jack Black dodging stampeding Brontosaurs'?

Or was it the ridiculous scene of him fighting three T-Rexes while juggling a 110lb woman without injuring her?

At least King Kong didn't cut away everytime something cool was about to happen. That, and Brody and Watts were way more interesting leads than the Maximoff twins.

I don't disagree that Brody and Watts were far better leads but man King Kong movie was horrible.
