Golden Globes winners

01.11.2009

I didn't get to watch too much of the GOLDEN GLOBES this year as I was prepping the launch of our brand new JoBlo.com splash page (okay, I was watching the Steelers vs Chargers), but from what I did see, here's what stuck out for me (Mike Sampson will provide greater analysis on Monday):

  • Johnny Depp is looking better with age

  • Salma Hayek is a goddess

  • I wish I could piss between Scorsese and Spielberg in the loo

  • I love how Colin Farrell casually mentioned that he was a coke snorter on stage

  • Chris Nolan's acceptance speech for Heath Ledger was touching and just right

  • Kate Winslet apparently loves Leonardo DiCaprio more than her husband Sam Mendes and you know what...it's all good!!

  • Cameron Diaz is not looking better with age

  • Props to director Darren Aronofsky for flipping the bird on TV in front of half a billion people...nice!!

  • And finally...where the f*ck was Jack Nicholson, yo!?!

Golden globes always seemed like a poor-man's oscar to me. Man, i can't believe wrestler hasn't come out yet in my down. I really want to see that.

And how did vicky christina beat in bruges for best comedy? Did anyone even see that?

The F BOMB

Great GG this year. When producer of SLUMDOG drops the F bomb on live tv and his reaction as he said it, was priceless. Hysterical. That wrapped up the GG nicely.

I'm glad Heath Ledger won. I don't care what anyone else says, he deserved it and I'd be saying the same thing if he were alive. He gave probably the best performance of the year. It astounds me that everyone who says he didn't do a good job can't (or won't) see how much he threw himself into the role and how dedicated he was to it to give us the on screen Joker we deserved. Nolan's speech was perfect; among the best of the night.

Was a little surprised (but pleasantly so) to see Johnny

Was a little surprised (but pleasantly so) to see Johnny Depp there. Doesn't he hate awards shows?

Loved Speilberg's speech and that Scorsese was the one to give him the Cecil B. Demille.

Mickey Rourke's speech was, hands down, the best of the night. As someone already mentioned, it was very genuine. I also give props to Aronofsky (who should have been nominated) for flipping the bird on TV.

Althought Benjamin Button was good, I'm glad Slumdog Millionaire won all of it's nominations because it was easily the best film of the year.

And I'm glad to see In Bruges get a nod at least, because it was a great film and had ths misfortune of coming out so long ago that some people forgot about it.

Hugh Laurie gets robbed again. And Ledger winning, though cool for a good (but EXTREMELY overrated) movie is a shame since he wouldn't have won if he was still alive.

And GabbaGoo, if I had to guess, given that she was there and JoBlo's evident love for her, those boobs belong to Salma Hayek. Do I get a prize if I'm right?

@ Mark_Rumsfield

I'm sorry, not trying to start something but I'm sure countless people on here are going to try to find validity in the statement, "Christopher Nolan is my favorite director but I HATED The Dark Knight and I don't think Heath Ledger gave a good performance and certainly didn't deserve to win an award."

Anyway, loved Farrell winning, Winslet getting two Globes, and Rourke's speech was edgy and real, not prestigious or false or clichéd. Love how the delay didn't pick up on Aronofsky's middle

Mickey Rourke gave the best speech and was the most deserving of all the winners in my opinion.

I'm a fan of Kate Winslet so it was cool she won twice, but I was rooting for Anne Hathaway and Amy Adams, so at the same time it's very disappointing they didn't win.

Christopher Nolan is my favorite director but I HATED The Dark Knight and I don't think Heath Ledger gave a good performance and certainly didn't deserve to win an award. I can't wait until the hype for this movie goes away

I can't wait until the hype for this movie goes away because it's so annoying to me, especially being a Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale fan, that THIS is the movie people are going nuts over. Of all the movies either of them have done, this is the bottom of the barrel.

Overall, a surprisingly good batch of winners.. but Slumdog Millionaire, as much as I liked it, was NOT the best of the year, IMO. Not even close. 8/10 from me. I see TDK, Ben Button, In Bruges, The Visitor, and the Fall ahead of Slumdog.
