Grant Gustin is ready to run in the first full costume image from The Flash!

03.11.2014

UPDATED: More new pics from the set below!

A few weeks ago we got our first look at the mask for The Flash, the upcoming CW Arrow spinoff show starring Grant Gustin as the inconic DC superhero and today we have our first glimpse at the full uniform of the scarlet speedster, which is designed by Academy Award winning costume designer Colleen Atwood. Pilot director/executive producer David Nutter weighed in on the suit in a press release, saying:

"I hope the fans who treasure the character are as excited as we are by what costume designer Colleen Atwood has achieved with this latest version of The Flash's iconic suit."

The Flash is currently in production in Vancouver with an expected air date in the CW 2014-2015 schedule. It is executive produced by Arrow's Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and David Nutter. With the success of Arrow and an obvious eye towards building a live-action DC universe, CW and DC are making big moves to secure a foothold on the TV market before Marvel debuts their Netflix original shows. It's a race to the finish with The Flash in the lead.

What do you think about the full costume?

Need to rectify my earlier comment...

I hadn't gotten a chance to see the updated photos added to this article before I said the suit looked stupid. I must apologize for now in much better lighting I can honestly say that I think it looks REALLY stupid....this is a cheesy outfit.....LET THE DOWNVOTES COMMENCE, Commence, commence!!!

He can move faster than the speed of light but won't be able to turn his head?

To be honest it looks silly but its never that fair to judge without seeing some proper footage, I enjoy Arrow so I'll give the creators the benefit of the doubt although i also didn't enjoy the actor when he had a stint on that show.

Filming outside my work as we speak

Looks like a bank robbery scene. Not sure how many days they have been shooting in Vancouver yet. But lots of people outside taking photos.

I'll run with it ....

GA informs Flash's vector: With Green Arrow getting a (less vigilante / more hero) mask in season 2, dealing with Shado and honoring the family hood, and adding meta-humans ... I wonder if S3 he will be a hero recognized by the city and then a superhero recognized broader. I say this to assume that his Green Arrow persona is cementing and the costume and equipment are realistically evolving with XP.
With Flash he is going to fall and be afraid of knives and bullets, so while he does not need

With Flash he is going to fall and be afraid of knives and bullets, so while he does not need a suit to protect from friction, he does need a grounded suit. Which this is to a tee, although I am surprised they already added the ear bling. I think his suit will get redder and lighter over the series if it has legs. Eventually you do want the suit to fold into a ring, but that takes some time for tech to develop.
I leaned on the puns pretty hard, so run with it.

Kinda retro in an 1800's steampunk kind of way...

--not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing. Sometimes change for the sake of change--or a unique design for the sake of promoting yourself as a creator, may not suit the character or service the story. I guess we'll see when the show comes out...

How can such a big head fit into such a tight outfit?

Poor guy looks like The Leader or MODOK in that suit. They couldn't find a guy with a more normal looking cranium than this kid who was obviously dropped on his head a few times as a child.

The outfit isn't that bad, but it just screams poor mans daredevil costume. Maybe it IS the daredevil costume but it shrunk in the dryer?

It looks okay...

...but if the series sucks...it might be another stick with which to beat it with. I don't think the Arrow costume is particularly good but the series is awesome...so it's a non issue for me. Funny enough, I remember thinking the suit from the 90's Flash show being pretty good. Have not seen it in a while but from memory, thinking about it now, it might have been ahead of its time...alas, the series sucked.

Aesthetics aside, The costume looks uncomfortable to wear when you're running at hundreds of miles per hour.

Considering how the costume looks in the comics, theres only so much you can do.

Reminds me of...

Color kinda reminds of the Ben Afleck Daredevil suit. I wonder if there is any science behind the suit, like in the old tv show. I think it was something like a deep sea diving suit, which enabled to handle his speed. On a side note, you'd think his legs wouldn't be so skinny. The suit is no big deal, as long as the show is good.

I like how it looks, but I kinda wish it had a sleek, smooth finish to reduce air resistance. Can't fault the Atwood though, she has 10 Oscar nominations and 3 wins for a reason.

EDIT, upon seeing the set pictures: hmm, that belt buckle look a little off. But I like the shade of red, it's not too bright nor too muted.

Wow, I like it! It looks practical although I wish the helmet would look a bit like the 1990s The Flash TV series.

I could be fishing here...

but the suit looks similar to the material that was used in Man of Steel for Superman's suit. Maybe that means the TV and movie universes are going to be linked after all (and no I don't mean Flash or his suit is Kryptonian). I know that is a leap but I do wish that the two mediums will tie in to each other. Stephen Amell has grown on me as Green Arrow.

optemistic

It actually looks like it is functional and still retains the "New 52" look I knew they were going to use. My only complaint is the shot itself, the perspective is throwing the size of his head and leg off

HAHAHA - yeah, don't get me wrong, I do like Arrow, but the soap elements are a bit bad. there is a just a bit too much 90210 in there.

You have to give Arrow some credit yes they're are some soap opera moments sprinkled in but it helps embellish the Queen story and the family tension. I don't think it's fair to call the entire show a soap with superhero elements.

Plus it's one of the best superhero shows to grace the small screen there's no reason to get picky.

I'm impressed

This suit looks cool it's believable without looking too cheezy. Flash is a great character and he's not as serious as Green Arrow or Batman if the show is good I would love to see Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin in a Justice League movie I think it is ludicrous that tv actors can't play their characters in movies that stereotype needs to change.

I think it looks great and the suit definitely keeps the same tone that Arrow has. Hopefully Flash has the same great quality as Arrow.

I wonder how the big screen version of The Flash is going to differentiate when it comes to the suit.

They're complaining because they think they look smart or cool b/c they go against the grain of what everyone likes. I'd say a big % of people that visit these movie sites are just looking to start up shit on message boards. Those people secretly jerk off to all the movie news they claim to hate! They're just loser trolls.

Kinda looks like a red peanut, but I'm strangely OK with it.

As much as I prefer the direction of the Marvel films over that of DC, I really dig 'Arrow.' It's pretty confident in tone -- soapy, but fun. Call me a 'tweenager, but I daresay, I greatly enjoy the show. 'Flash' could be good as well, especially given the expansion of this universe and the subsequent crossovers.

Pretty dumb looking. Why can't DC see what Marvel has done with their properties and fashion them to TODAY, to a different medium, to fit inside a cinematic world, instead of trying to shoehorn something clearly designed for a different medium.

I don't get people complaining about heroes having costumes. It's a big part of the character. If he was just a guy running around then he wouldn't be the flash, he would be Barry Allen. The whole point of superhero films is to bring them to life - sure you can adjust costumes to fit the actor, or the world they are in or the tone you are going for etc, but you have to be able to identify the character as his comic book counterpart. If Batman got rid of the cape and the ears and the symbol and
