Gravity is no match for the love between Kirsten Dunst and Jim Sturgess in this trailer for Upside Down

Jan. 24, 2013by: Niki Stephens

Adam (Jim Sturgess) and Eden (Kirsten Dunst) have it rough. Adam and the Garden of Eden-- Get it? Okay well, this twisted tale of tortured love has one tremendous obstacle-- gravity. Aside from the biblical references, there's also the old tale of boy from the wrong side of the tracks loving the girl from the upper class, except again, the tracks here equal gravity. They're screwed, right? Wrong. Adam gets some leg weights and take his chances against those who do not want him mixing with their kind.

That's the gist of the new trailer, but there's some pretty beautiful imagery to go along with it. I'm not sure how I feeling about it. One part of me finds it kind of silly, while the other side is pulled into it because it's a love story. What a sucker I am. Make your own decisions about the film after viewing the trailer below.

Synopsis: Kept apart from the girl he has loved his entire life; Adam must fight to reunite with Eden. But the laws of his world as well as the laws of gravity keep him from her. Adam must risk everything to access the forbidden world of affluence that exists literally above him. As he struggles to keep the authorities from discovering him while manipulating the gravitational force that physically pulls him back to his world, Adam faces insurmountable danger in hopes of finding his long-lost love.

UPSIDE DOWN is due to release on March 15, 2013.

Visually amazing

I could be wrong and they could be hiding interesting aspects from us, but the story doesn't see like it will match the visuals.

Unsure how the film itself will be, but it literally looks incredible. Visually stunning, so it has that going for it.

I just saw the film and I regret to report that oscarxp25 is right - it's visually amazing but there's really nothing else besides that. The romance is incredibly bland and uninteresting, and we don't get to know very much about the characters at all. However, credit where credit is due - it's fascinating to look at and was probably a daunting technical achievement. It just disappoints in every other aspect.

Kirsten Dunst tries too hard

Anyone else feel like Dunst tries too hard sometimes? This, Melancholia, Marie Antoinette. Something about her eyes makes her so unconvincing in some of these parts. Count me out.

March?

Why does the States get this film so late? It started showing here in the first week of January. I understand advanced screenings for major blockbusters, but why do international territories get Upside Down so fast?

It was visually beautiful and I did enjoy it. Actually surprisingly good. Gave it a 7/10 on imdb.
