Gravy for Biggie

03.06.2008

After all that noise about Sean Kingston playing Biggie, which I'm pretty sure was started by Kingston himself, it appears now that Fox have gone and signed up Jamal 'Gravy' Woolard to play the legendary rapper. The film will be called NOTORIOUS and will co-star Angela Bassett (Voletta Wallace), Derek Luke (Puff Daddy/Diddy) and Anthony Mackie (Tupac). If you ain't street like I or Charlie Sheen are, then let me fill your ass in.

Recognise: Christopher Wallace was a Brooklyn born rapper who went by the name Biggie Smalls, on account of a fictional gangster, and homeboy's inflated stature. He grew up during the 1980s and started dealing crack during the boom, because he was just too poor to be able to otherwise afford a room. He went on to be a mad famous rhymer and all-round cool cat, until he got gunned down in cold blood, result of a drive-by shooting and the bullets from a gat. Ten years later and there's a fear people will forget that MC, such a good friend to Diddy, even though every time he opens his mouth he dedicates whatever comes out, to Biggie.
Extra Tidbit: I anticipate your offer of a recording deal. Don't tell me that rhyme wasn't sick.

Awesome news!

After walk the line and ray, I felt those with too old-school, make with the modern days talented musicians. I think its awesome that out of all the music that came out of the 90's, they chose a rap star. His music is international, multigenerational, timeless.

I can dig it.

I'm suprised P. Diddy isn't gonna be playing himself in this movie since apparently he wants to break into acting and all. I'm more interested in Tupacs life than Biggies to tell you the truth, a talented guys life is taken early for portrayin a guy so many say he really wasn't. That would make for a good movie, and not another documentary.

hmmm

The cast seems talented for a shitty movie.. Derek Luke is a good actor, and Mackie isn't bad either. Biggie is probably the greatest rapper of all-time, but this movie is gonna be embarassing. It'll make most of its coin from the 16 year old white kids who have rich parents and pretend to be "gangsters".

That being said, I wouldn't mind if they changed the title and based it on tupac and biggie's lives instead of just focusing on biggie. Then it would be a pretty solid movie.

Not a REAL rapper? Who Cares?

Why does Gravy have to be a real rapper to play the role of a rapper? Shouldn't the question be: "Is he a good enough actor to play this role??". If the legendary Jim Morrison was perfectly replicated by Val Kilmer (who is not a real singer by any means) in THE DOORS, then I'm willing to give this guy a shot before I pass any judgment.

Derek Luke (see: ANTWONE FISHER) and Anthony Mackie (see: HALF NELSON) are extremely talented actors, so I am quite excited to see how they play their

My only issue is with the Director, George Tillman Jr., who hasn't made a film since MEN OF HONOR (2000). Ya, it was a decent movie if you look at the glass half-full, but lets be honest, the directing was probably the weakest aspect of the film.

I wish Stallone directed this one instead of the TV movie version...

I live in NYC and I listen to hip hop and i never heard of him. maybe he's not a rapper, just a guy who raps.

ok, i just googled him... he's 'famous' for getting shot in the ass outside Hot 97's studio while 50 was giving an interview and for auditioning for the lead in Fat Albert...

I don't know man....

Nice

Looks like they got some real actors and are giving this movie the respect it deserves.

but the irony isnt lost one me... a movie about a rapper with no rappers in the cast.
