So the 3D thing isn't really a craze or a gimmick any more -- it's apparently the standard. At least for anything that has a big budget and isn't a romcom.

Warner Bros. has announced that its new non-Batman superhero and hopeful franchise GREEN LANTERN will be crafting emerald objects in three eye-popping dimensions. The studio will also release Zack Snyder's psychedelic action flick SUCKER PUNCH in the 3D format.

LANTERN is still doing test footage for its impending shoot, so filming in 3D shouldn't be a problem. But PUNCH has already rolled before cameras, so the studio will obviously need to retrofit the visuals with an additional D a la CLASH OF THE TITANS.

Also, a site called Shadow Locked is claiming that Ridley Scott's ALIEN prequel will also feature a second set of jaws snapping at your face in 3D. They heard this straight from ALIEN art director Roger Christian (who might be more notorious for directing BATTLEFIELD EARTH). And for the record, Christian is confident that Ridley has a handle on what to do with the deadly space beasts: "Ridley told me some of his ideas when we were here in Toronto. He has a very clear understanding of where this should go."

So there you have it. Update the prescriptions for your eyeglasses and up the dosage on your migraine meds -- 3D isn't going anywhere, except right toward your cranium.

Not Totally Opposed to 3D...
but damn near it. Too many directors and studios are out there creating 3D effects just for the sake of creating 3D effects (ala A Christmas Carol that was simply horrid). I personally don't want to see a movie that is all 3D effects at the cost of the story or any characterization. Besides, not everyone in this world we live in has access to a 3D theater (at least an hour drive for myself)....

I don't mind it as long as I have the 2D option as well. I think they should save the 3D for big event movies like AVATAR and when they did it for THE POLAR EXPRESS & A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Otherwise, if they back baby in a corner, I will just stop going to the movies or sneak in more. Screw those greedy d-bags. I will pay the right price if they sell me a product that justifies the price.

As for the 3D runtimes, I totally agree with its harm. After watching AVATAR, I got an eye spasm and it created a little dent on my cornea. Went to the doctor and he said its caused by extreme strain. It went away but still kinda sucked. Movie was great though.

As long as they keep the 2D option available, whatever. I do like seeing movies in 3D so long as they're under two hours. The problem is that's it's actually MEDICALLY considered very bad for your eyes to watch 3D for more than two hours at a time. Past the two hour mark, it starts to give me a terrible headache. So yeah, under two hours is good for 3D, but studios need to be responsible enough...

So yeah, under two hours is good for 3D, but studios need to be responsible enough not to release movies over two hours in 3D until they're finally able to come up with a form of 3D that doesn't require the glasses to screw with your eyes to the point where it is no longer considered 100% safe (99.8% safe it may be, honestly, but who would want to take even that small risk over just a movie?).

I think 3D is overrated and the ticket-prices are way to high!

But Green Lantern could be the only movie I am going so see in 3D, because it could work really nice on the character and his power...

No thanks.
They can keep making movies in 3D, but I won't be watching them in that format. Especially for the inflated ticket price and having to endure the wearing of glasses that have had a couple hundred greasy hands and faces all over them.

Sucker Punch? You bastards! As much as Vanessa Hudgens in 3D appeals to me... if I can't touch too, it's all a lie! Oh well, tack on another movie I'll never see at theaters or own the DVD.

IMAX > 3D
I could go GL and alien in 3D, but I would be just as happy without it. The sad thing is, since most the movies getting 3D treatment would most likely make a lot of money anyway, it's hard to tell if the success will be due to 3D. I wonder what the first 3D film to flop will be.

I agree that the 3D thing is getting abused, but the geek in me is really stoked to see Green Lantern and his power ring jumping out of the screen at me. That is a movie that can take full advantage of 3D technology.

Is this really necessary?
I can understand a movie like Alice in Wonderland being in 3D, but why does Green Lantern have to be in 3D?

I just find your comment strange. I'm not a fan of 3D but for a movie like Green Lantern that has big CGI effect, including flying, space battles, green constructs from the rings, it makes somewhat sense.

I was so terrified by the alien creatures in Scott's first film that I think 3D would have made me just die in my seat. 3D acid spilling fun? Leave the kids at home this time, people. I don't want a repeat of 2009 "Friday the 13th" with the 4 y.o. in the front screaming as if she were being murdered.

We'll see, we'll see. I think Imax would be enough. All this 3D is kinda pissing me off. But if it works it works, what else can one really say.
