Grindhouse 2 talk

07.25.2007
Even though GRINDHOUSE was a box-office failure, I'd still like to think that the vast majority of you schmoes really dug the flick, because you and me, we're from the street. And we embrace creativity. And hot chicks. Or whatever. Anyway, just to add some fuel to the gossip fire, Bloody Disgusting caught up with the infamous Babysitter Twins (Electra and Elise Avellan), who spilled a couple of beans about the sequel:

"Robert [Rodriguez] said he’d do it [Machete] and asked for us to be in it... Robert wants to do GRINDHOUSE 2 with [the two films being] "Machete" and "The Babysitter Twins... Robert mentioned something about the end of the world and Hollywood action films, where we’d be trained in Mexico to come back here and fight... Hollywood starts fucking with us so we start killing… we [would] kill Harvey Weinstein in the movie, although that’s just talk now right,"

Well, what do you guys make of that? I'm not crazy about the Babysitter Twins, but I'd certainly like to see what they're talking about, more than I would Eli Roth's TRAILER TRASH idea. Thoughts?
Extra Tidbit: The Babysitter Twins are actually Rodriguez' nieces.

And, I have to agree with Johnny Bubonic's posting, kinda. While it was a harsh way of stating so, and while there has been a lot to come out recently that was shittier than Death Proof, Planet Terror did catch the spirit better. And I agree with your last statement, I'd rather see "The Inglorious Bastards" come to life, someday. The guy disappeared for 6-7 years and came back with Kill Bill, so maybe an extended sabbatical ain't such a bad idea.

I've worshipped this movie since its release, but I'm wary about this, honestly. The first one caught the kind of moviegoing magic that most films just don't have these days, and to do another is testing that. I just personally think that we need a full double feature DVD of the first, and to leave it at that. Maybe I'm in a minority, but I'd rather see "Trailer Trash" come to life, and I don't even like Eli Roth's films to date.

Can't wait for this

I can't wait for a sequel to my all time favorite movie but if both are directed by Rodriguez then both movies would be too similar. They need to have Machete and then they need to get Edgar Wright to make Don't

I say they should keep doing it like this... like, make this one Machete, and Thanksgiving (I know, it's the babysitter twins, but I don't know how much I like that) and then take two trailers from GH 2 to turn into movies for the next GH. anyway, I loved Grinhouse and cant't wait for another. It was the most fun I've had in a theatre in a long time.

listen, I too know a thing about zombie romps as i am shooting one next fall. Seen'em all, love most of em. But Planet terror was even a notch above. I am not a rodriguez fan at all but that half of grindhouse was funny, exciting, creative and that "no brainer" line had me on the floor. I wish they didnt center the ad campaing around Rose's machine gun leg as this was so less interesting than the fact that this was a zombie movie with humor. maybe they could have showed her after the

I wish they didnt center the ad campaing around Rose's machine gun leg as this was so less interesting than the fact that this was a zombie movie with humor. maybe they could have showed her after the amputation when she whines- "I wanted to be a stand-up comedian!" Did they even show zombies in the ads or posters?

that said, i believe you have to be a total Tarrantino whore to think Death Proof was brilliant with brilliant dialogue(I can't even recall a line to quote, and once Rosario and the other super unlikable bitches show up it sounds improvised at best), Brilliant car chases (a chubby stuntwoman strapping herself to the hood of a car for kicks just as a killer is coming? when have you ever seen this in ANY situation? CONTRIVED and not amusing. if you bought that you will accept anything. And who cares anyway?these cocky chicks were so fucking annoying you wanted them dead instantly. which leaves us with not one sympathetic character in the lot, especially since stuntman Mike goes from cool, past his prime badass serial killer to whimpering wuss.

Deathproof alone is two different movies. the first half/first 4 girls= cool, 2nd half/rosaio's skanks= obviosuly written after an all night coke bender. Maybe the extended version will be better. oh, and recycling the 'missing reel' joke from Planet terror was fucking lame. Worked once when we go from everyone running into the diner to the diner engulfed in flames. but the 2nd time? cheese.

So twomanGay, I suggest you stay on each other's dicks instead of Quinten's. Last i heard he's straight. And Quinten, I like you better when you take your time, years even on a script and deliver cinema worthy of the palm d'ore.

ToasT, I'm gonna disagree. You're basically saying that because it was a bad movie people didn't go see it multiple times, thus the poor box office. Now I haven't read any statistics on this, but I highly doubt that a film's success is even remotely dependent on repeat viewers. Also, the film got some decent reviews.

It probably had more to do with the fact that it opened on Easter weekend and that the general public just didn't have a clear understanding of what the movie was. I saw it on

It probably had more to do with the fact that it opened on Easter weekend and that the general public just didn't have a clear understanding of what the movie was. I saw it on Easter Sunday and there were elderly people and parents with young children. As expected, several walked out less than 30 minutes in. Hell, my mom went to see it and she almost left after Planet Terror because she didn't realize it was 2 movies. So clearly there were some marketing issues, as well.

PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEEEEEEASE LET IT BE TRUE!!!

See, I think that everyone who actually DID see GRINDHOUSE *LOVED* it. It was a majority of people NOT wanting to see it that damaged it so much.

Sounds Good

I like the idea of Grindhouse 2, though with maybe some other choices. If that is what they want to do, then I trust them enough. But Dont or THanksgiving or some other one would be nice to see.

I still dont quite understand why so many people hate Death Proof. It was a fantastic film. Sure, it was much different than Planet Terror, but it was another good aspect of the grindhouse genre. People need to get over it.

Oh, and Twomen probably meant Planet Terror down about zombie

Listen up Bubonic Toast

This whole idea that Death proof was a bad movie is ridiculous. Granted, if you don't like Taratino films then Death Proof might not be your cup of tea. What else might cause your distaste of this tea? Oh just the fact you can't compare the two films. They're both different Grindhouse films. They both represent the Grindhouse as a whole. Planet Terror was great! It was a great apocolyotic zombie romp. Believe me I know a thing or two about apocolyptic zombie romps. Anyway, Death Proof? Great

Great dialouge. Great performances. That car chase? Get outta here! That soundtrack? C'mon!

I think the problem is people don't realize that they're are seeing two differnt films. They can't be compared the way some are comparing them. Plus, you gotta love Stuntman Mikes change from bad-ass to complete pussy.

hey Toast

your research seems acurate to me. Loved Planet Terror and all the trailers but Death Proof turned to crap after the first set of girls got killed. It should have ended right as the car tire drove over the face of that slutty chick in the backseat.

This grindhouse 2 idea sounds ... not good

I see a couple of reviewers on this site and others who praise Grindhouse. They love R. Rodriguez's flick and feel the same way about Tarantino's even though they admit that it contained problems. Members of this site seem to be dumbfounded at why Grindhouse failed at the theaters. After I saw the film the reason seemed to be clear but I did research anyways. I talked to many people who saw the film and many people who didn't. My findings just reinforced my original opinion. The fact is that

I talked to many people who saw the film and many people who didn't. My findings just reinforced my original opinion. The fact is that Death Proof was not a very good film. It was placed last in Grindhouse and had many viewers disappointed at the end of the movie. This feeling of regret and disappointment halted the urge for repeat viewing and helped initiate negative word of mouth (this I found out from the people who have not seen the film). Death Proof had promise but failed to deliver. It's unfortunate that Rodriguez had to suffer, even though he doesn't have a great track record.

I know I'll receive negative feedback for this but I expect it .

To the people below

Eli kinda stated all the good from Thanksgiving was in the trailer....I don't know how he can make it better in a 90 minute film. Also..they're already remaking creepshow for 08.... and to the haters calm the hell down....or go watch crap like grudge 2.

Now in my opinion I'm up for a Babysitter Twins film but i would also love "Don't" to be a film and some cool ass trailers from Guierillo del Toro and Wes Cavern...and cut the run time to 2hr and 30 min and Grindhouse 2 is set.

Rodriguez should just stick to the Sin City films.

Apparently this guy can't make a good film unless he's on someone else's shoulders.

this is just two nobodies talking about what someone said. it'll never happen. george lucas will direct a great, oscar winning film before grindhouse 2 happens.

I would love to experience another GRINDHOUSE, especially if Rodriguez is going to direct both films. However, I do agree with Broken Halo; I would really like to see THANKSGIVING brought to life. That trailer from the first GRINDHOUSE was my favorite part of the event.

Grindhouse rocked. Simple as that. And if a sequel means making into a sort of super bad ass version of Creepshow, so be it!

And seeing someone rampage in Hollywood is a fun idea to entertain.

Personally speaking . . .

I'd still love to see Eli Roth's 80s horror homage THANSGIVING as one of the films in GRINDHOUSE 2.

While it was the best movie going experience of my life, Im not sure you could capture it twice. Also I dont think directors today really have the imagination to work outside the basic template of GRINDHOUSE. What I mean is that rather than getting DEATH PROOF you'd probably get two PLANET TERROR films, which played on the concept but didnt work outside like DEATH PROOF which gave the film abit of class.

grind me up...

well, i go to the movies for fun. sometimes its the visuals or f/x i want to check out, rarely is it a "story" i want to be told, mostly, its a hobby to indulge in, and grindhouse fit the bill, and my tastes, perfectly. it was what a good time at the movies should be. dont delve into it too much, just enjoy it for what it is. their homage to those films worked for me, and id gladly go see part 2. roddy and tarant are a dream duo. bring it on baby...
