Strike Back below!
by: Mike Sampson Nov. 12, 2009

When some people I find genuinely funny outside of movies make a movie together, I really want it to be funny. Such would be the case with GROWN UPS, the forthcoming comedy starring Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade, Kevin James and Rob Schneider. At least four out of those five people have made me laugh before. Sadly none of them do in this new trailer. This is perhaps the biggest waste of talent since Steve Carell, Tina Fey, James Franco, Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis in DATE NIGHT. Am I being too harsh? Judge for yourself below.

Is it just me, or does kevin james look like he was cast just because he's similar to chris farley? Who definatly would have been cast if he was still alive.

Great teaser. I can't stop watching the rope scene with Kevin James, very funny slapstick.

Damn, Mike Sampson, you need to lighten up and stop being so jaded. That trailer was hilarious! And I know exactly what you were talking about in the article, I just don't think it applies here, this shit was funnny.

I saw it
It was pretty good, although I'm a fan of Happy Madison productions. And this movie doesnt really sway from or bring anything new to that formula. It had its extreme highs and extreme lows. Instead of commending the good performances I'll just tell you who I could really give a flying fig newton about. Chris Rock and Rob Schnieder. All in all it was a fun time at the movies and I'd give this...

What is is with Adam Sandler's apparent obsession with director Dennis Dugan? I mean, the only thing they've ever done together that was funny was Happy Gilmore. Chuck and Larry wasn't terrible, but it wasn't anything special.

a bit too harsh...
granted, some jokes are really gratuitous, lame and totally expected, but still, i like most of the leading actors, so iŽll be expecting some good laughs troughout the movie and so making it a worth while experience for me :)

Comic actors only have a limited shelf life before their films suck, this happened to Hope,Lewis,Murphy and Williams. And now Sandler is the same.

Maria Bello, Gary Busey, Salma Hayek. Lovin' the visiting supporting players that Happy Madison has assembled here. Hopefully this will get the bad taste of FUNNY PEOPLE and BEDTIME STORIES out of my mouth.

Well, it can't possibly be worse than Funny People. What an over-indulgent abortion of a film that piece of shit was.

This whole thing seems masturbatory. I have no desire to see this at all. What this movie actually does is show that the door is open for a new group of actually funny comedians to do their thing.

It looks meh. Too early to tell, but you WOULD think this is gonna be one of the better (or more tolerable) Happy Madison/Dennis Dugan films simply because it has all 5 of them.

The only thing that made me actually laugh out loud was just something about the way Chris Rock said, "that's 4!"

Really, none of those guys are funny anymore. I guess Rock had his moments and motivated Sandler in the 90's was funny but Spade, James, and Rob Schneider are all terrible.

kinda seems like The Expendables but with mid 90s comedians. All they need now is Ray Romano and Jerry Seinfeld to make it epic. Looks kinda funny though, might hit it up in the theaters

This was actually funnier than I expected. Not saying much. Rob Schneider is pretty much never funny, and David Spade hasn't been funny since Chris Farley and "Just Shoot Me"(not the best sitcom itself).

"Date Night," on the other hand, looks pretty good. I'm always down for a good buddy comedy-thriller. Even if the director's track record for good laughs is light.

This is a setup similar to Wild Hogs. I'm not a huge fan of Kevin James. I also don't understand why David Spade would point out Adam Sander being a fatty when he's clearly the one who's gained a few. I do love them both though.
