Guardians of the Galaxy's James Gunn would love to do movies for Thunderbolts, Hit Monkey and We3
During a recent online Q&A with fans, James Gunn was asked what he would choose if he could direct or write any property (comic, book, TV show, etc.), and the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY director selected three comics that he would be interested in bringing to the big screen. Those three properties are: Thunderbolts, Hit Monkey, and We3.
What, did you think he was going to say Flash or Namor? It's James Gunn, of course he was going to pick properties that are a little quirky or are not household names.
Here's a little bit about each property.
Thunderbolts: Out of the three, this one probably has the best chance of actually happening. Thunderbolts is a Marvel superhero team that mainly consists of reformed super villains, and throughout the years many famous characters have been a part of the team such as Hawkeye, Deadpool, Elektra, Punisher, Venom and Red Hulk.
Hit Monkey: He's a monkey who has dedicated himself to killing assassins after his clan is slaughtered by one. The character has appeared in some issues of Deadpool, but he has also had his own mini-series and a one-shot special.
We3: This one I'd love to see as a film. We3 was a three issue mini-series published in 2004 about three prototype animal weapons (a dog, cat and rabbit) escaping captitivy and on the run from the military. The animals are encased in robotic armor and they can talk (although it's limited) due to skull implants. It's pretty much HOMEWARD BOUND: THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY if the animals in that movie had machine guns and razor claws.
Clearly this is just a wish list of sorts for James Gunn, but I'm happy to see that the other comic book properties he's interested in developing are all awesome and if GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is a hit than maybe Gunn will get his chance to direct one of them.
