Guess who's back? The trailer for Curse of Chucky has arrived

Jul. 8, 2013by:

After two ventures into the world of horror-comedy with BRIDE OF CHUCKY and SEED OF CHUCKY, the evil Good Guy doll is back to his straight horror ways with the sequel to CHILD'S PLAY 3, CURSE OF CHUCKY. Why the filmmakers decided not to go with a different title to set the movie apart from the last two is beyond me as is the reason to even make this fifth (really? five sequels?) to CHILD'S PLAY.

CURSE OF CHUCKY once again has Brad Dourif voicing the possessed toy doll while his daughter Fiona stars in the film as a human character. The film, and I use the word film loosely, has a different doll inhabited by the murderous spirit of killer Charles Lee Ray. How and why this happens is probably not explained very well, but this is a direct to DVD movie, so we can give it some leeway.

Nica (Fiona Dourif) is grieving over the gruesome suicide of her mother when her domineering older sister Barb (Danielle Bisutti) arrives with her young family in town to help settle their mothers affairs. As the sisters butt heads over Nicas plans for the future, Barbs young daughter comforts herself with a grinning, red-haired talking doll named Chucky (voiced again by Brad Dourif) that recently arrived mysteriously in the mail. But as a string of brutal murders begins to terrorize the household, Nica suspects the doll may hold the key to the bloodshed. What she doesnt know is that Chucky has a personal score to settle. Hes determined to finish a job he started more than 20 years earlier, and this time hes going to see it through to the bloody and shocking end."

I don't have much to say about this as I am still surprised it was even made. If you are the person excited to see this movie I am sure anything I say will not sway you, so I will just say that CURSE OF CHUCKY hits DVD on October 8th.

I know it's not highbrow or anything, but I've had a soft spot for the Child's Play movies since I was little. At least Chucky's creator and original voice are still involved. I'll be watching. And it's GOT to be better than "Seed of Chucky".

Uggh. Dimly lit set pieces are not scary, and never have been. It's when you put the monster/killer in bright light that they become truly terrifying. Child's Play 1 and 2 understood this, and so did American Werewolf in London. Very VERY few other movies understand this.
The subway stalking scene from American Werewolf in London is probably the scariest thing I've ever seen on film. Also the end when the werewolf is walking through the streets and clearly lit.
Let's not forget the factory

Let's not forget the factory sequence in Child's Play 2. Very brightly lit, and it allows the audience to see every psychotic nuance in the Chucky puppet's behavior. When Chucky climbs up the roller-ramp with a bloody stump is still one of the best scenes in a horror film ever.
And lastly, I think Bruce (the shark from Jaws, for the uninitiated) is scariest when he pokes his head out of the water, making himself plainly visible in the bright sunlight.

@BrokenDreamer: Idiots and little kids are afraid of the dark. I am neither, and I dare to assume the target audience for this movie are not idiots or little kids.

the monster you don't see is way scarier than the monster you can see clearly.

you lost me at the factory sequence in childs play 2 being one of the best scenes in horror because it was in the light.

Look at the same film, different scene, where Chucky killed the school teacher with a ruler. Was that terrifying? It was in the light so must have been. Death by a ruler beating, nothing scarier than that.

I wanna say light and darkness have no say as to how scary a movie can be, it's

I wanna say light and darkness have no say as to how scary a movie can be, it's moreso on the cinematography, situation, and the set dressing of the scene. The American Warewolf in London example is a great one, but the lights had barely anything to do in how scary it was. Think about it, you're alone, underground, and being chased by a warewolf, lights have no play on that other than it has to be well lit because well, underground subways are well lit places.

Opposed to it, take Nightmare on Elm Street, according to your theory, when we first meet freddy in the alleyway and his arms extend, it would have been way scarier to see him in daylight and this happening as opposed to the shadowy figure in the darkness? Come on.

finally, if you're not afraid of the dark but think monsters are scary in the daylight, does that mean you never leave your house during the day and live in total darkness?

Think of how much better a movie like I Am Legend would have been if the creatures stayed in the shadows for the whole movie. The CGI wouldn't even have been an issue. It would have been much more scary, for lack of a better word for that movie. But it also leaves a sense of mystery as to what gruesome creature is stalking you from behind the shadows. But at the same time we all know what Chucky looks like by now.

Was that...

William DaFoe as the Priest/Father figure at the dinner table? I don't see his name mentioned on IMDB anywhere...but also don't see that character either mentioned. Possibly?

That's not Willem Dafoe. It says right on IMDB A Martinez plays Father Frank.

The trailer is okay. However, it would be much better if it doesn't have that "White Flashes" about 80% of the time.

So excited to see this. I love the original trilogy and they still hold up pretty damn well (especially the original).

This actually looks good. At first I thought we were going to get something like Bride of Chucky or Seed of Chucky but this seems to be going back to its roots of the first film. I like it and I'll be adding it to my collection of Chucky movies.

I'll definitely pick this up. I loved Chucky as a child; strange, I know but I always found it fascinating how they made a doll walk and talk. Anyways, while this doesn't necessary look scary, it does seem like it has Chucky's charm.

I have great memories of watching the original three movies as a kid. I recently revisited 1 and 2, and found that they were still very fun. I'm so excited to see Chucky ditch the comedy and return to horror.

I've been kind of hoping for a while that they would bring Chris Sarandon, Catherine Hicks and Alex Vincent back for a worthy sequel. I know it's more than likely just a pipe dream though.

DATS SURE SUM UNBIASED JOURNALISM.

But seriously, this is going to be terrible. And that line made me laugh so hard.

Chucky looks....odd.

Anyways, glad they're attempting to go back to the horror roots (even though I enjoyed Bride), glad Mancini is still majorly involved, glad Dourif is still happy to voice Chucky, especially happy that this isn't just a straight re-boot of the series and will still technically be a sequel.

I'll be there, I'm sure it'll be mindless fun.

What the fuck? Did Don Mancini run over your dog? This trailer looks good.

Looks absolutely terrible

You green guys are nuts. This looks terrible. I was going to say it looks like a direct to video movie, but then I realized it IS a direct to video movie. And the CGI makes him look way less scary than practical effects. Yawn. Pass.

big fan of the Chucky movies, even the last few that became more comical & I am glad they went back to the regular Good Guy Doll though because to me it's more creepy. I would rather see these straight to DVD sequels than another pointless remake, which died a few years back.
