Guillermo del Toro answers ten questions for the fun of it

I love Guillermo del Toro. He is one of the most adorable human beings of all time. So I'm more than happy to post anything del Toro related. Tomorrow in the new issue of Time magazine, the director will be featured in an on-going column in which the mag asks ten questions.

There's some interesting stuff here but I would have thrown in some really random questions like: Do you enjoy pretzel M&M's? Which Ninja Turtle is best? They say that Charmin is the softest toilet paper, but is it really? I call bullshit.

Enjoy del Toro's responses below. UPDATE: Unfortunately, I've had to take a good majority of the interview off. Hope you got to read it. If you happen to have a subscription to U.S. Time, then you can read the rest online here. My apologies del Toro fans.

Dont Be Afraid of the Dark, the new film that you co-wrote and produced, is a remake of a 1973 TV movie. There are a lot of remakes and reboots and reimaginings lately. How does one do a re- anything well?

It needs to come from a place of genuine love. When remakes come from a genuine place, like [John] Carpenters The Thing or [David] Cronenbergs The Fly, they can be really good.

Theres a lot of whispering in this film, which is the most inexpensive scare effect ever.

There is no more terrifying horror than the one that is intimate. Whispers are that.

I Love Guillermo!

He's truly one of the most talented visionaries of our time. It would have been amazing to see his take on The Hobbit.

He doesn't need to say anything. That picture tells me all I need to know. He's clearly a man with a young heart.

I would have loved to have read where he is with 'Hellboy 3'. I know he is busy doing his thing right now and Perlman is busy doing 'Sons of Anarchy' (best show on television), but the final movie to Hellboy needs to happen.

I would love to see a HB3, especially considering that Angel of Death prophecy scene... but I think Del Toro recently said something like, regarding both his and Perlman's schedules, "By the time we got around to it it would have to be called HellMAN and feature Perlman fighting evil in a wheelchair."

Also he's mentioned the cost of the Hellboy movies being a factor. In the first two movies he said the ideal budget would have been $20-40 million more than they had. Same goes with the 3rd since it would be more epic. It's quite impressive if you go and look at what he did with the budget he had.

He's such an eloquently spoken man, and it's amazing to listen (err...read) his opinions on things. That's truly tragic what happened to his father, but the story of his separate house is quite comical (pun intended). All great stuff. :)
