Guillermo del Toro chooses his Pacific Rim composer

Feb. 29, 2012by: Alejandro Stepenberg

Ramin Djawadi

Picking the right composer can do wonders for a film, no matter how good it might already be.  THE DARK KNIGHTKINGDOM OF HEAVENDRIVETHE FOUNTAINBRAVEHEARTLORD OF THE RINGS. And so, in the spirit of choosing an already interesting composer and giving them a big project to play with (like with KINGDOM OF HEAVEN and LOTR):

"After many months we have finally closed the scoring with Ramin Djawadi - whose scores for Game of Thrones, Prison Break and Iron Man are amongst my favorites in the last few years."

Which is pretty awesome.  Because "Game of Thrones."  Djawadi has been a protege of sorts for Hans Zimmer, and worked on other movies you may know such as CLASH OF THE TITANS, FRIGHT NIGHT, and SAFE HOUSE.

You can click right here to hear the truly fantastic title theme from HBO's "Game of Thrones."

PACIFIC RIM will be out July 12 of 2013 and stars Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Idris Elba, Clifton Collins Jr., and Rinko Kikuchi.

Boring choice. That logo reminds me of Battlestar Galactica, though.

Sweet

Don't worry about the banner... trust me... it's going to be an amazing movie..

I'd elaborate but I signed a waiver.

Great choice of composer. Del Toro doesn't slip. He's a genius.

I know it was mentioned in the article but "The Fountain" is probably my #1 favorite film score. Just an amazingly emotional and effective work. "Field of Dreams", "Beetlejuice" and "Spirited Away" are also up there on the list.

No arguments here. Game of Thrones' opening score is awesome. Can't really remember Prison Break's . . . I'm not going to sound too original here, but I have to go w/ Jaws for favorite score.

That teaser banner blows, too much like Iron Sky. Doesn't even hint at giant monsters or battle mechs.

Fantastic choice. Game of Thrones is one of the few shows which I actually watch the opening credits because the music is so good.

Tidbit: That's such an amazingly hard question to answer. The Darknight was amazing, but LOTR is classic.

Boring choice, I don't really dig his scores. One of the very few problems I had with Iron Man was his score. I would have liked to have heard Marco Beltrami, who scored the first Hellboy for him, which was pretty dang good.
