UPDATED: Guy Pearce spotted on Ridley Scott's Prometheus set

May. 2, 2011by: Paul Tassi

UPDATE: This has now been confirmed by Pearce's reps. Still no word on his role.

Like assuredly many of you, I'm a huge Guy Pearce fan and was therefore disappointed the last few years when I went to go see him in THE HURT LOCKER and THE ROAD, only to see him onscreen for a matter of minutes in each.

But now it seems the actor has secretly joined up with another new project, hopefully one that gets him a bit more screen time. According to CHUD, a tipster and a few follow up emails have confirmed that he's joined the cast of Ridley Scott's ALIEN quasi-prequel PROMETHEUS where he's been spotted on set.

No word on his role, but Pearce joins the already stacked cast of Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron, and I think it's safe to say it's time to start getting unreasonably excited about this movie.

I've been a Scott doubter for a while now in the wake of a string of underwhelming films, but I'm holding out hope can reclaim some of his past magic by returning to sci-fi.

What do you think about Pearce joining the cast?

Extra Tidbit: Did manage to catch Pearce in his full role in ANIMAL KINGDOM. Good stuff. Oh yeah, and KING'S SPEECH, duh.

This film gets more appealing with every piece of news that is released about it. That doesn't happen very often. This looks to have an excellent cast and some really strong creative minds behind it, so I hope they deliver.

Does this mean the film will win Best Picture at the Oscars? I hope so!

GREAT!

now I'm actually interested in this film. Hopefully he has a big part, and not just some throwaway supporting role.

What's his deal

I really like Guy Pearce as an actor. He is obviously a quiet guy,you never hear or see him in public. Is he hard to work with or what? Anyway it would be nice to see more of him on film.

You might see Guy Pearce in this film. But because it's PG-13 you can forget about seeing a guy pierced.

Yes, yes - you're very clever. If I want to see a guy getting pierced I should watch some gay porn. Admit it, you were thinking about writing this l'il zinger in response. Save it. Put in an envelope and send it to the writing staff of "Two and a Half Men". Employment guaranteed.

The misspelling of 'again'? A forgivable typo. Getting "your" and "you're" mixed up? Imbecile alert.

Add THE KING'S SPEECH to the list of films in which Pearce's role should have been larger. His King Edward was fascinating and deserved a couple more scenes.

Awesome

Pierce is never bad, obviously, but I think the best performance of his career is that of Edmond Exley from L.A. Confidential. Such a criminally under rated film.

A film of that stature can still be under rated. L.A. Confidential is essentially flawless and yet it isn't spoken of with the reverence one might expect.

Guy is a badass

Guy Pearce - Animal Kingdom, The Kings Speech, The Proposition, Memento, Ravenous, and L.A. Confidential. I am sure he'll make the best of his part.

Anyone notice Pearce had small roles in the last two Best Pictures? I'm calling a threepeat - so of any movies he is in this year, one will win Best Picture

Well, he made his choice...

Actors like Guy Pearce and Thomas Jane are obscure compared to other overexposed media whores because they choose to be. They aren't hungry for publicity or willing to play the Hollywood game. Val Kilmer and Cuba Gooding Jr. fucked up because of egotism and poor choices, respectively.

Guy Pearce is always a welcome addition to any film, especially Prometheus. Hopefully it will be a significant one. Also waiting for Lockout, hoping it will do wonders for Guy, as Taken did for Neeson.

Nice. Just the other day I realized that Guy Pearce appeared in the last two consecutive Oscar winners for best picture, The Hurt Locker and The King's Speech. Not many actors can say they've done that.

This movie has a fantastic looking cast .. alot of actors I like that arent in every other movie like Shia/Portman/JGL or Leo. Guy Pierce is criminally underused and should be starring in alot more mainstream films than he is.
