Gwyneth Paltrow hints at Pepper Potts wielding super powers in Infinity War

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

While it comes as no surprise that Gwyneth Paltrow will be reprising her role as Pepper Potts in The Russo Brothers upcoming AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, it's remained a mystery as to whether or not she'll be wielding powers of her own. As you no doubt recall, Potts displayed an impressive amount of badassery during the finale of IRON MAN 3, and we're certain that plenty of fans are looking forward to Ms. Potts possibly cracking Thanos a good one on his prune-like purple puss.

While appearing on The Late Show on Thursday night to promote her lifestyle brand Goop, Stephen Colbert began asking questions about Paltrow's upcoming role in Marvel's biggest film to date. While Paltrow was careful not to divulge too much information, she did admit to wearing a mo-cap suit during filming.

After declaring that yes, she does play a part in the film, Paltrow said the following about Potts displaying powers for the Avenger's next big day out, "You know, to be totally honest, I'm unclear," Paltrow admitted. "Because it's so secretive and it's all on green screen, and I'm not exactly sure. And they don't let me say anything."

Ah, but that wasn't enough for Colbert, so he kept digging by asking the award-winning actress, "Is there any chance, at any point, when you were working on the movie, did you thrust your hand toward someone wearing a blue suit with ping pong balls on it?"

Paltrow then said, "Yes." To which Colbert surmised, "Than you still have powers."

Now, while none of this is a confirmation that Pepper will be slashing through the air with psionic swords or flying through the air with the greatest of ease, it does make you wonder if a trace amount of the super-powered virus she contracted in IRON MAN 3 might play a role in the events to come. Yes, it's true that she gave up powers at the end of the film. However, we're dealing with a comic book fantasy world here, and that's a place where anything can and probably will happen.
