Latino Review is reporting, via their "strongest" sources, that Maggie Gyllenhaal has signed on to replace Katie Holmes in THE DARK KNIGHT. Latino first reported on Gyllenhaal's possible involvement earlier this year along with other possible candidates Emily Blunt and Rachel McAdams. Gyllenhaal take over the role of Rachel Dawes in the film, a part that Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan opted to not have Holmes reprise (despite whatever assertions you might hear from Holmes' publicists). Still to be cast is the role of Harvey Dent for which Jamie Foxx and Aaron Eckhart have been attached. Filming on THE DARK KNIGHT, under the fake title "Rory's First Kiss," will begin this summer in Chicago. Stay tuned for more as it develops (including confirmation from WB and the news in the trades).

Maggie Gyllenhaal is hands down a better actor than Katie Holmes. On the level of attractiveness I think they are in the same ballpark. Katie always seems fake and only has that one “smirk” look that she always does. Maggie on the other hand has a larger body of respected work with some sexy on screen moments as well. Oh yeah like the bruce wayne in the comics is so very monogamous. That man goes through women like batarangs. Besides, I'll sacrifice a little continuity if it means replacing Katie Holmes with Maggie G.

Maybe for the first time they want to keep the same characters for a couple of movies. Ya know maybe actually make these movies connected not like the original movies where they dont even mention the fact that Bruce Wayne I guess dumps Women after saving their lives.

I say...
Bravo, Bravo.. I consider this an improvement. But yeah, just change the character, sure some will complain but after seeing the movie everybody will forget. I mean, in Spiderman Mary Jane has always been pivotal to everything, here the character which I dont even remember her name can be erase and more than half of the people going to see the movie wont even remember.

Seriously, just bring back Katie Holmes.

Sure, she's terrible but it's not as bad as switching actresses.

What I want to know is, will we be getting the hetero version of BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN in the film (think Jake and Heath, but sub in Jake with Maggie, and remove all subtlety of the joke).

Just change the character, please.
I wouldn't mind if she was an all new character all together, just don't make her Rachel Dawes. Her character was not that special in the first one, they can write Rachel Dawes out of the movie and it would be great replacing Maggie as a new [link] Kyle? Just kidding.

this is the last actress i would want to see in this franchise (short of katie holmes). Please, Nolan, rethink this. Maggie is hard to look at for prolonged periods of time. Have mercy on us.

1st and foremost she is a great actress but she is completely unattractive. If people say models don't really look like that its all make up and lighting and then they look that good imagine how much work must go into her looking disheveled,droopy and sloppy in feature length films. I would not want to wake up next to her in the morning. I dont like Holmes but I would take her over MG for this...

i am all for Maggie Gyllenhaal joining the cast of this movie, but I've got a personal issue with two different actors play the one character within a single series. If they'd just ditch Rachel Dawes (there's really no reason for her to stick around after Batman Begins anyway) and introduce Gyllenhaal as different character entirely, this would be excellent news.

Eh, not too please with this. Love Maggie most of the time, but not as a love interest for Bruce Wayne. Her posture is very distracting as well. But anybody would do a better job than Katie, so we'll see!

Sure, Nolan could have cast some bland "hot" actress with no talent, but they're a dime a dozen these days and I'm glad he didn't.

Baby Got Back
I love the Batman franchise and lost it when Batman Begins rocked the socks, but I'm not so hip on this casting. Gyllenhaal IS good, but as Bale's love interest? Don't know. Movie will Rock no matter what though.

Bad casting move. She's a good actress, but I just don't see her in this role. I've said it once and I'll say it again, don't recast the role, just get rid of the role altogether. If they created a new role, I would probably be ok with Gyllenhaal.

Well, that was a relief...
When I first saw this headline, i thought JAKE Gyllenhaal was confirmed as Harvey Dent.....i was PISSED.





Then when i saw the picture of Maggie, I got happier (in more ways than 1).



I loved her work in SherryBaby. She is a very talented actress, in my opinion, and i think she is a great choice for the role of Rachel Dawes.



However, i still...
