Hader drinks milkshake

02.27.2008
I wonder if when PT Anderson was tucked away in his cavern in the Santa Ana mountain range, writing THERE WILL BE BLOOD, if he knew that two years later Saturday Night Live would be parodying his now-famous ‘milkshake’ line. Well I did. And guess what? I was right, as I tend to be. You can head over to NBC.com and check out the sketch, which isn’t notable so much for it’s humour, but more for Bill Hader’s spot-on Daniel Plainview impersonation. Poor Daniel Day-Lewis. He explores the darkest corners of his psyche to spawn one of the most intense characters ever put on screen, and here comes Bill Hader pulling out that same performance out of his knapsack for a throwaway sketch on a past-its-prime comedy show.
Extra Tidbit: I'm obviously not equating Hader with DDL, but still, you've gotta admit it's an impressive impression.

I don't care what anyone says, Hader's impression is spot on. Maybe not the best skit ever, but you gotta give Hader props for the prep work he put in.

Gaaaaad!!!

That was a complete waste of my time. I didn't even finish the skit. I'm serious that show needs to just end if all they can come up with are weak and cheesy 'run offs' of popular films. Yes it was kind of a funny line but it's not a goddamn comedy, write something fresh or just end the series for the love of God.

heh i just wanted to give it a positive green box, since there is so much black and red here.
Yes Fred Armisen did a bad impression, his voice was way to high (I can do the low voice, i know you were wondering). But yes Hader's impresson of DDL is perfect.

Its and impression

If he didnt do a good impression of him you wouldnt call it an impression so it had to be decent. All he does is copy someone, nothing original just acts like someone else with talent and creativity.

Fact.

PTA's wife (or partner, I don't know if they're married) is Maya Rudolph. So I'm sure even if he thought it was lame he wouldn't say anything. The sketch wasn't anything special. In fact, it was typical lazy SNL writing. But the impression was solid.

I didn't mind this sketch. It was okay. I didn't laugh as much as I liked but Hader really became Plainview for a second there. I love the "I've abandoned my boy!" freakout. I liked Tina Fey as Juno.

CRAP.

Wow, that was horrible. I mean cheers for being so 'faithful' to the source material, but that was crap and left a bad taste in my mouth.

And the Spade impression is terrible too.

Hader is one of the only talents left on that show, spot-on impression. Fred Amarisan (sp?) is possibly the worst and least talented comedian on the planet. I remember from the first time I saw him on SNL thinking "Man this guy is terrible, he'll never last" and yet here he is... so many years later and is actually one of the headliners...

It is a great impression, but such a horrrrriblle skit. Who-ever that is trying to Javier Bardem is just awful. Hader is great as Daniel Plainview.
