Halloween trailer

Apr. 7, 2007by:
The teaser trailer has arrived for rocker-filmmaker Rob Zombie's controversial "re-invention" of Carpenter's horror classic HALLOWEEN, and it basically doesn't do much to assuage my initial instinctive reaction: aside from the commerce argument, who really wanted/needed this?

Anyway, the trailer has the new Loomis (the great Malcolm McDowell) rasping through the brief exposition about psycho Michael, with plenty of glimpses of the Shatner-masked Shape being all menacing and stuff. I don't think I can force myself to care enough to write more, so just check out the trailer for yourself RIGHT HERE.

Also, while I understand the business aspects of releasing certain horror movies in the summer, wouldn't this one (being named for an actual pseudo-holiday and all) really benefit from an October release?!? Eh, what do I know... (Now that I think about it, they'll probably have the DVD on the shelves the week before Halloween. $$$!!!)
Extra Tidbit: I anxiously await the next good zombie movie far more than the next good Zombie movie.

ahhhhhh

I just dont know....I, going crazy. Half of me is digging it and the other half is screaming its really going to blow. I love Zombies work. I think he's talented and that he has the best intentions for Halloween, I really do, but I'm 50/50 on this.

Give Zombie a Chance!!

I can't wait to see this film! I loved the original and I discourage those who criticize Zombie for being "Unoriginal" and "destroying" a classic. The reason why re-makes suck-ass today is because they don't do anything new or unique to make them stand out from their counter-part. Some remakes these days even do the same exact shots as their predecessors. I have a numerous amount of faith for this man. So I think we should all give him a chance to do something his way. Oh well

Producers came to the conclusion that new stories used for sequels suck too much so remaking the original is about the only option for using established characters.

I want this to be a good movie. However, I want it to fail because I know if it does well then every classic horror movie will DEFINITELY be remade. Good news is that pretty soon they will run out of horror movies to remake and we can all relax...for about 5 yrs.

I see Nightmare on Elm Street getting a remake soon. I wonder who will be the new Freddy....

I'm not sure what I think

I was pumped for Zombie's remake. However, after watching the trailer, my anticipation for it has gone done. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a good horror movie... my problem is, it looks like Part 9. I'm a HUGE Zombie supporter... so I can't even believe I'm saying what I'm saying.
I just have a funny feeling that we're all going to be talking about HATCHET at the end of this year, not HALLOWEEN.

Hey - I'm game.

I can't wait to see this flick and finally see the OVERLAPPING prequel (and thus a "SEMI-remake") that Rob Zombie had mentioned since first signing onto the project...

good AND bad

I'm one of the biggest fans of the Carpenter Classic and sure, I was a pretty pissed when I heard Zombie was going to helm the remake. But when I saw the trailer a couple minutes ago, I must say that it looks pretty good. It definately won't live up to the original, but I'm sure it will be enjoyable. There a couple new twists, it looks like, but there are also some scenes from the original too. Myers dressed as a ghost...
Anyway, I totally agree with Angelius because I'm only twenty and I grew

Anyway, I totally agree with Angelius because I'm only twenty and I grew up with those classics he mentioned and many others.
I saw both "Thriller: They Call Her One Eye" and "Cannibal Holocaust" when I was ten goddamn years old for chrissake!!
So, yes it's a remake and there are tons of young stupid movie goers out there who don't know it's a remake, but that's because the studios know that the younger audiences (mostly) are pretty biased and won't even look at a movie that was made before 1990.
You can quote me on these upcoming horror remakes to look out for:
Phantasm
Hellraiser (maybe not for awhile)
A Nightmare on Elm Street (same, maybe not for awhile)
Last House on the Left
The Crazies
Bottom line: I'm pissed about a Halloween remake, but that'll never change. Remakes will go on forever and ever, until the end of time. We'll never be rid of them.
P.S. I predicted that there would be a Halloween remake a couple of weeks after I saw the original for the first time. That was back in '92 - I was five years old. That's no joke either.

RE: afulinara

afulinara, how old are you? And no this is not an insult I just wanted to ask what your age was. Because, I have come to believe that the ONLY reason why hollywood makes remakes these days are to please (and get a rise out of) the younger generation.

A younger person would rather see a modern remake of "Dukes of Hazzard" rather then watch the "Classic Dukes" series. A younger person would rather watch a remake of "Black Christmas" then watch the "Classic Version" instead.

And now, I believe that it is the younger generation that will help support this Halloween Remake instead of just watching the original classic instead. Zombie doesn't know 99.9% of his fans, so I know he doesn't give a flying fuck what I think.

But the question is; When does it end? The destruction of the classic legacy is growing year by year. I'm only 23, but I grew up watching these classics. It's what got me into film in the first place.

It's just... Why watch a remake when you have a PERFECTLY DONE classic ready to purchase or rent from the video store?

It was quite a treat of a trailer before "Grindhouse". I'm all for it. Why not? Zombie movies are a genre all their own, so it might just appeal to his fans or it might take mass appeal. Who really knows? The way things have been rolling at the box office, it might be something good coming his way.

dont know

dont know why my last comment posted twice at very different times, oh well.
Anyway, I don't think it looks too bad. I liked the original and think Zombie could put a decent twist on it. And for those who think they should only make it if people "ask" for it, you clearly dont understand Hollywood. Yeah, everyones tired of remakes/prequels but it's not like major studios log on to movie sites and listen in on what people are "asking" for, thats not how movies are greenlit in case you didnt know.

RE:Angelius

Angelius, it doesnt matter if anyone asked or didnt ask for anything. Zombie's gonna make a fucking movie, regardless of what the fan's think. If you didnt ask for a Halloween remake, then dont fucking see it. its not like zombie really cares of you dont.

*sighs*

People need to just chill and WAIT til the movie comes out. I think Robs vision of the movie looks interesting and I'm a MASSIVE fan of the original.

The irony is Joblo talks about the need for a remake of Halloween...but has a banner for a REMAKE of Black Christmas at the top of his page. Um hypocrite much??

So its okay to pimp OTHER remakes or certain other horror movies *cough cough* SAW as long as the people involved do their best to accommodate Joblo or his friend over at

Actually White Dragon, all the haters out there needs to keep doing what they're doing right now. People need to hear the public's view on unwanted remakes and stupid fucking prequels. If we wanted a backstory, we would have asked for it. If we wanted a Halloween Remake, we would have asked for it. I am a fan of Zombie's work, but this is going too far. He's lost his creative edge and has given in to the Hollywood Remake fiasco. I mean fuck!

This looks terrible. Malcolm McDowell should be embarrassed. For some reason he just seems wrong for the part of Loomis.

For me, the jury's still out on Zombie. I really want to brush him off as a hack, but I'm not sure, since he does know his horror. However, it looks like Halloween may prove it.

I guess it ain't so bad. They "take it back" as much as possible, making sure people know it's a reinvention.
My only issue, and this is just me bein' stingy, is the whole "Inside everyone...lies a dark side..." thing. I guess it's scarier to people if anyone is capable of this shit, but, Michael was different and that's why I loved the guy. He was unique -- and fucked up, man!
...Oh well. Can't be worse than the Black Christmas remake...*shudder*

GRRRR ARGGG

First off this is not a Bubbafat submission. I am a friend of his. Halloween is NOT a "actual pseudo-holiday" it is based on very rich beliefs of Samhain a Pagan holiday. Like most "christian" holidays are based on Pagan holidays Yule=Christmas,Ostara=Easter(thats were bunnies and chicks come into play)...But i digress Hells Yeah it should be released on Samhain and we Pagans need some love out the were not all "fake" witches, or animal killers or anything like the movies portray we are all

How can you benefit from the same month that Saw IV is being released in?

This new Halloween would get manhandled, it's a smart move releasing it before hand.

A Halloween film hasn't been given an October release in nearly 20 years. Why should this be different? Logic serves no basis here.

Besides, August has always been very successful for horror films. Say hello to your old friends H20 and Freddy vs Jason.
