Halloween’s new Laurie

Although a few other names recently rolled right on through Rumortown (the cutie from CRY WOLF, the adorable cheerleader who will theoretically save the world on HEROES), rocker-turned-filmmaker (turned film remaker) Rob Zombie has announced the leading lady for his impending HALLOWEEN reboot. The new Laurie Strode will be played by… Scout Taylor-Compton! Whuzzah?

This sweet young thing has made numerous TV show appearances (and was in SLEEPOVER, which is like totally my most favorite movie EVAR), but she must’ve displayed some serious scream-queen potential to Zombie. And while this announcement isn’t really flapping back my lips with searing star power, I can’t deny that the movie has some major C-list genre cred already (including Malcolm McDowell, Danny Trejo, Adrienne Barbeau, Clint Howard, Dee Wallace Stone, William Forsythe, Ken Foree, Udo Kier, Brad Dourif, and Courtney Gains). It’s just the redundancy of the whole thing that has my thong in a knot (and yes, we’re as tired of complaining about it as you are of reading it) – replicating and/or overexplaining a familiar character’s origin is almost never a good idea. Did we learn nothing from the STAR WARS prequels?
