Handmaid’s Tale season two gets first teaser & release date

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Last year was another great year for television, and among the shows that got the most love and found a firm place in the zeitgeist was Hulu’s THE HANDMAID’S TALE (an adaptation of the Margaret Atwood novel). The story about a dystopian future where women are subjugated and organized into a brutal and dehumanizing class system connected with audiences in a big way, becoming one of the biggest shows of the year. After raking in all the awards this season, it’s fitting that we finally got the first teaser trailer for the upcoming second season, which dropped at TCA yesterday. There are tons of gorgeous visuals, much like the first, and though not too many story details were given away, Hulu did reveal the show will arrive April 25 and have a 13-episode run.

Here is the synopsis:

Award-winning and hit drama series, The Handmaid’s Tale, will return for season two on April 25th with two new episodes, and subsequent episodes released every Wednesday only on Hulu.

The 13-episode second season will be shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead. “Gilead is within you” is a favorite saying of Aunt Lydia. In Season Two, Offred and all characters will fight against – or succumb to – this dark truth.

The first season was a real wallop, illustrating a brutal future society with striking cinematography and featuring numerous fantastic performances, including career-best work from Elisabeth Moss as Offred. The second season will likely pick things up where the first left off, so you should get on that show if you haven't already. If you weren't already, it will make you terrified of not only what the future holds…which includes terrible Amish clothing.

THE HANDMAID'S TALE returns April 25.
