Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters captures a new release date of January 25th and the IMAX treatment
The people over at Paramount seem to be having a rough go of it lately, and this release date switch doesn't do anything to dispel those concerns. After all, It's not called "Jackpot January" for a reason, though recent releases like CHRONICLE and THE GREY have shown that the "dump month" perception of January (and February) may be in need of some revision.
HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS has been shuffled around and switched up and re-arranged for months now, generally a sign that either the studio has no idea how to market what they have or they have no idea what they even really have to begin with. As late as this past August there were two cuts of the movie being shown around, while the release date itself has been moved around several times over. It just doesn't sound like a fun time, and while the trailer instilled some confidence as to the chessy-but-fun nature of the movie I remain highly skeptical. If for no other reason than that I have just about zero idea what to expect from this movie anymore after the combination of expectations+the trailer+Paramount's treatment of it.
Originally set to release n March 2nd of this year before being bumped to January 11th of 2013, you can now catch HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS on January 25th, 2013 in both IMAX and traditional theaters. And in 3D. Which means that the titular brother/sister Witch Hunting duo (played by Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton) will now be up against the ensemble comedy MOVIE 43 and Jason Statham's PARKER. Where do you think your money will go?
