Although I was a little disappointed by THIRTEEN, LORDS OF DOGTOWN really did it for me. Maybe it's because I have a super duper crush on Emile Hirsch, or maybe it's because Catherine Hardwicke is a talented director. I'd like to believe the latter, honestly.

Hardwicke has just signed on to direct TWILIGHT, based on the popular literary series about a 17-year-old teen named Bella who moves to a small town to live with her father and is drawn to a strange classmate who's part of a family of vampires. Summit Entertainment is hoping for a potential franchise, as the author Stephanie Meyer has published several installations of the series.

Hardwicke's last film was the relative bomb THE NATIVITY STORY and to many, she has yet to prove herself as a director. But don't expect this to be a hard R vampire picture in the vein of 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, but something more teen oriented. It'll be interesting to see how she navigates between the teen market and the horror market and if she can make that work.

Uhh...
L.J. Smith wrote the Vampire Diaries. Different series.

Stephenie Meyer wrote Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse: the series in question.

Facts straight, kthxbye.
