Hardwicke rides again

Apparently Catherine Hardwicke loves young-adult fantasy series. After directing that TWILIGHT movie everybody went apeshit for, Hardwicke is now in talks to develop and direct a film adaptation of “Maximum Ride”, another epic tale about hot boys and girls with special powers. Instead of blood-sucking vampires, the teenagers in this series are genetically altered so that they are part human and part bird. They are called The Flock, and when The Flock teaches themselves to fly, they escape the laboratory where they are being held captive and are pursued by a pack of creatures called the Erasers, that are part human and part wolf. And no, I’m not making this stuff up.

Don Payne (FANTASTIC FOUR: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER) is writing the screenplay based on the the five-volume series by James Patterson. The most appealing aspect of this whole project has got to be the idea of these kids teaching themselves to fly; man is that ever impressive! I’m 26 and the only thing I’ve ever taught myself is how not to get any on my stomach.
