Harlin is all Finnish

Almost thirty years after coming to America and causing many things to explode (and a few careers to implode), action director Renny Harlin is returning home.

Harlin is helming the war biopic MANNERHEIM, looking at the life of Finnish politician and military commander Carl Mannerheim and detailing his time as leader of Finnish forces in the civil war of 1918 and during the “Winter War” in WWII. The movie is the most expensive production in Finland’s history — but at $15 million, it’s just the demolitions budget for some of Harlin’s earlier work.

Actor Mikko Nousiainen will play the titular figure in the Finnish-language film. Harlin has the Sam Jackson thriller CLEANER awaiting release, and a few other movies featuring bullets and detonations in the works. But hopefully no swords — one CUTTHROAT ISLAND was more than enough, thank ya.
