Harrison Ford still not sure he will be a part of Star Wars: Episode VII, up for Indiana Jones 5

Oct. 10, 2013by:

As we await official confirmation that Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher will return for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, good old Harrison Ford still refuses to commit one way or another. The man who immortalized the scruffy looking nerf-herder Han Solo seemed like a done deal to appear in J.J. Abrams' sequel to the beloved classic trilogy of films.

Appearing on the BBC's Graham Norton Show, Ford said he has not made a final decision as to whether he will be a part of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII or not. To date, Ford has been quiet about involvement in the new movies while George Lucas spilled that he felt the actors would all be returning to their roles. Ford has previously said that he wanted to have Han Solo killed off rather than return to the STAR WARS universe. His recent resurgence via movies like ENDER'S GAME and a cameo in ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES is certainly building him back up in the public eye, so if not STAR WARS, which character does he want to revisit? How about Dr. Jones.

"I would do it in a New York minute, yes, Ford revealed. I dont think there is any barrier to Indiana Jones being an old fart. Im old enough that we dont need (Sean) Connery any more. Im old enough to play my own father!"

Ford may have soured some fans with KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, but I would love to see him don the fedora again. We already heard he has spoken with Ridley Scott about coming back for a BLADE RUNNER sequel, why not complete the trifecta and reprise Jones and Solo as well?

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII is slated for a 2015 release.

I sure hope he comes back.

I just re-read an old article from a year ago that had a very credible yet uncited source, and everything in the article has come to fruition (at least in terms of current speculatin), down to the "A New Dawn" subtitle. It stated that this new trilogy was actually intended as a vehicle for the original cast, making episodes 10-12 based on their offspring. The article even stated the likelyhood of Disney just merging the two new trilogies into one, especially with all the talk of this being Star

But nonetheless it sounds like an early plan was to make Han, Luke, and Lea quite prominent players throughout this entire new trilogy. Maybe Hartison, is afraid of signing onto 3 pictures and not just ep VII.

He hates Han

Eh. Harrison Ford didn't have much respect for the character of Han Solo or of the sci-fi world of Star Wars. Seriously, listen to ANY interview or commentary he's done on the subject, he thinks sci-fi is trash and beneath him. He's never out and out said it so that he doesn't get the backlash... if he does it, it'll be for the paycheck only.

Let's all be honest. Luke, Leia, and Han will all be supporting characters at best in these movies. This is a Disney movie now. And really, what more is there to do with the characters then put them in the mentor/parent role. And I really don't want to see these characters killed off. As cheesy as it sounds, I want to imagine they all lived happily ever after once Return of the Jedi ends. So I don't blame Ford for not wanting to be back.
I'd like Indy 5, just to end the series on a high note

OF COURSE HE's GONNA BE IN IT!

c'mon guys. why would he reprise any of his older roles yet not play Han Solo again?! this is just a diversion.

i doubt they'd ever recast the original roles or relegate them to mere cameos. and they've gotta have the story pretty much locked down by now. so there's either two versions of the script, or the original cast has already made their decisions and they're keeping it a secret.

I don't mean this disparagingly, but compared to his soon to be colleagues in The Expendables 3, Harrsion Ford isn't as washed up. He doesn't cling to Indy and Han Solo - in fact, he seems to actively want to distance himself from those parts and has taken on a variety of roles in the intervening years while still remaining an A-list star. If there's something worthwhile in those characters for him to go back to, we'd all love to see it, but I guess Ford doesn't really need that and that speaks

Can't wait for Ex3.

You're all nuts if you dont think he's going to be in the film. This is all just smoke and mirrors.

I can imagine a fun adventure movie with an old explorer and a younger man in the lead. It works great on Uncharted. But I would have liked Indy to have an apprentice, not a son. Now that Shia LaBeouf is not 'cool' anymore, they kind of paint themselves into a corner. The only way I can get excited about another Indy movie is if it doesn't include his son and Marion.

Indiana Jones

As much as fans disliked it, Crystal Skull made $768M worldwide. No one involved needs the money, but I'm amazed Disney isn't fastracking Indy 5. It's a guaranteed hit.

Honestly, I don't want to see him in either

Solo needs to remain a young badass in the minds of Star Wars fans and Indiana Jones should have ended with Last Crusade no need to beat a dead horse.

I'd rather see him as Indiana Jones again, unless Han Solo is a big part of these sequels, which I doubt. Professors of archaeology get old, intergalactic scoundrels don't.

Indiana Jones without Lucas = exactly of what the fourth film should have been.

I want Star Wars to go back to their roots. CGI is nice and all but Prequels overkilled it. Would love to see Ford to Indy and Solo again, just do it right with lots of practical effects. Even Pacific Rim used a full set with hydraulics for the actors playing inside the robot head.

I wouldn't be surprised

That the reasoning behind this is that he won't even be that big of a part of a new Start Wars movie but will still be the star of another IJ.

If there is a new Indy, it ha better start out with Shia getting killed. Preferably by a choice environmental danger, ie giant propeller, rolling ball, skin melting ghosts

Almost positive Shia would not return by choice. 1. He's stated he didn't like the movie. 2. He's not exactly fond of his earlier movies. He's re-branding himself as a "serious independent actor."

I'm sure it's all part of JJ's "let's keep everything secret!!!" policy. I agree with The_Soloist, I'd rather see him come back as Han... even if it's just for one movie. The last Jones adventure was ridiculous. No more, unless they promise to make it old school. No CGI gophers, monkeys, ants. No Shia Tarzan. Just make it the way they would have in the 80's!!!!!

In all honesty, I would rather see him as Han Solo than Idiana Jones again.
