Harrison Ford talks about his return to Han Solo plus new pictures

You've undoubtedly seen the Entertainment Weekly covers that hit this morning featuring various FORCE AWAKENS characters, but now we have some words from Han Solo himself, Harrison Ford, on what he thought about returning to a character he seemingly had no investment in over the years. If that wasn't enough, there are a couple of new pictures to boot!

Harrison Ford on the character of Han Solo:

He was always the cynical member of the original characters. While we were invited to engage on the questions of some pretty arcane mysteries — the Force and the mythology that surrounds it — he was the guy who said, ‘What? Huh? Come on.’ It’s what made the interplay between the characters work. There was a callow youth, a beautiful princess, a wise old warrior, and there was a smart-ass.

Regarding how his character has and hasn't changed:

He does not aspire to the position of Obi-‘Ben’ Kenobi, nor do I aspire to be some New Age Alec Guinness. His development is consistent with the character, and there are emotional elements which have occasioned his growth. We spend a lot more time [in THE FORCE AWAKENS] on his failure to master basic skills, like accounting. And accounting for his own behavior. There’s a lot of the rogue still left in Solo. Some things don’t change. I was glad that the character was still alive for me to play in this new iteration.

Whatever it is, whether it be time or a sweet paycheck, I'm happy to see that Ford has lightened up regarding his place in the STAR WARS universe. Still, there's no denying that whether the man loves, hates, or is indifferent about his character, there's no one else who could've played him like he did. Well, maybe Tom Selleck...

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS will be in theaters on December 18, 2015.

Not sure if he dies...

but I do agree with Kevyn below that they are passing the torch. My theory is this one features Han & Chewy mostly, some Leia. The next one Luke will feature more prominently. By the last one, episode 9 it will be completely driven by the new generation with the older cast making cameos at best.

I've said it many times, but the original cast won't be the future. These movies will act as a send off for them. Some will die, others will find some sort of peace whatever that looks like for those characters. I am so stoked for this. Not because I'm blood thirsty and want to see them dead but because it's poetic. These character have fought the good fight and there time is done. I am of the belief that all the character's specific 'ends' will be one of respect and justice for the

I for one will be sad of course, but will be happy and will walk out with nothing but gratitude for these characters for enhancing the lives of... well fuck everyone. Han will die and he should. So many of them are like Batman. What's he gonna do? Retire and play golf? No they are heroes and they fight till the fight is won, or they are dead. It's justice.

I'm really hoping they don't kill Solo. Honestly I don't think Abrams would want to upset the fan community by doing that. I mean, would you want to be known as the director who decided to kill Han Solo?

I'm figuring he dies too.
Also I'm picking him to sometime in the future appear on a show and give the Star Wars equivalent to Shatner's "Get A Life" speech.

my guess...

...Solo bites it in this film, Chewie goes on to fight another day.

By the basics skills, outside of accounting, being a father is probably something he's not good at. I mean, if Kylo Ren is indeed his son, he did a bang up job.

He's the character I'm looking forward to most in The Force Awakens. Hopefully he doesn't bite the bullet in this one, but I wouldn't be surprised if he were to sacrifice himself (along with Chewie) in this to save everyone.

I agree. He's been my fave Star Wars character for ages.

Hate to say it but I believe Fords only reason to rejoin the film was if Han was killed off. It's been the worst kept Star Wars secret that he wanted it in ROTJ and I can't see Ford wanting to hang about for another 3-4 years potentially at his age and with a young family
