Harry Osborn has a list of problems and Dane DeHaan wants to explore them for The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Dane DeHaan

Yesterday we got a first look at Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (you guys really hate emo hair, huh?) and now we have a little insight from the actor on his take on the character.

Harry Osborn has been portrayed three times by James Franco, but DeHaan believes he can still bring something new to the character, according to an interview he had with EW:

Ultimately my job is to portray a living, breathing human being and to act truthfully under imaginary circumstances. Sometimes you know that involves terrorizing an entire city [in Chronicle], sometimes that involves getting intimate with Michael C. Hall [in the upcoming Kill Your Darlings]. It’s certainly going be my version.

Dane DeHaan wouldn't go into details but it does sound like his Harry could be a little darker than Franco's version:

Everybody has their own set of circumstances and problems, and I think you know Harry Osborn certainly got a list of problems. Just because he goes home and sleeps in his penthouse at night and has a ton of money doesn’t mean he’s a happy person.

The best new addition to the franchise (in my opinion) is Dane DeHaan and I think he's going to bring a level of intensity to Harry Osborn that we didn't see from Franco in the Sam Raimi films. If you've read the comics you know that Osborn has some serious problems besides the whole "my Dad is the Green Goblin" issue, although a lot of his problems can certainly be blamed on that. Comic book characters and poor father/son relationships go hand in hand like strippers with their Daddy issues.

Dane DeHann newest film, THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES, is in theaters now and you can see him with Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Chris Cooper, Paul Giamatti, and Sally Field when THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 hits theaters on May 2nd, 2014.

open minded

I like the actor. Enjoyed the amazing Spiderman more than the original trilogy.
So what direction he combs his hair doesn't bother me.

I agree with all of that. When I first saw the picture, I didn't even think anything of the hair.

Hair? Don't Care

I didn't notice any complaints about the hair, but I wasn't looking for them. Did people complain about the look of Jamie Foxx's nerd hair? Who cares....If the guys do a good job acting, then that's all that matters, isn't it.

it's hair

It's a hairstyle, who cares. Not like he has the Electro comb over going for him.

Really anxious to see the direction they take Harry, especially in his relationships w/ Norman and Peter.

yes and no to a contradiction, ya cause i'm disliking one characters hair and not making a deal about another.

no to the point hair is part of the character,in Foxx's case it's just another over the top gimmick based upon making his character more goofy looking (comb over, glasses, gap toothed, nerdy clothes, are all these necessary?). Whch is why i slammed it because if you have all these other things that make the character nerdy/goofy looking, the hair is just a minor problem in the

It's so bad he kinda looks like a nerdy stereotype than a character at all. While in DeHann's case, it's just the hair that people were criticizing, look at the rest of him on that photo, looks good to me.

at the end of the day it's just hair.

Like I said yesterday Foxx, DeHaan, and Cooper are the only reasons why I think this film will be any good or at least better than the first Amazing Spider Man. But as good as they are, DeHaan and Cooper have some big shoes to fill with Harry and Norman Osborne after Franco and DaFoe played their parts perfectly.

I really hate this guy...

Worst casting choice in a long time. The guy is just nothing but hollywoods vision of modern teen angst wrapped up in a hipster douche. He will be the worst part of this movie.

Have you seen Lawless and The Place Beyond The Pines yet? I thought he was great in both...especially The Place Beyond The Pines.

After seeing Dane DeHaan in Chronicle and True Blood

I was really happy to hear he's a part of Amazing Spider-Man 2. If he thinks he can bring something new to Harry Osborn, I can't wait to see it and I think he'll do a much better job than Franco (who's not as strong an actor, IMO).
To all the "emo hair haters", on some level, you're supposed to dislike Harry Osborn. Don't you think the hair might be a part of that? Just a thought.

The comic book version of Harry Osborn pictured above looks a bit like a young James Caan.

Just sayin'. :)
