Harry Potter being converted to 3D after all?

10.13.2010

After announcing that HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS would not be converted to 3D for its release later this year, Warner Bros. has announced that some other POTTER films would be getting converted to 3D. The studio announced that ORDER OF THE PHOENIX and THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE are currently going through a 3D conversion for Blu-ray and a possible theatrical re-release.

The good news is that the studio seems to have learned from its experience working with the 3D conversion process on DEATHLY HALLOWS. Instead of forcing itself into a tight deadline that it might not make, they're not announcing any possible release dates for either a Blu-ray or theatrical release of the films, allowing them to take as much time as they need to get the conversion right.

While the immediate announcement only confirms a Blu-ray release, I have a hard time believing that the studio would spend all the money necessary to convert the movies to 3D for a format as untested as Blu-ray 3D. The success of PHOENIX and PRINCE will likely pave the way for additional POTTER films to see the conversion. All this makes me wonder that if, despite not releasing the film in 3D, the studio is still working on converting DEATHLY HALLOWS.

DAMN IT!!!

WTF! This has got to stop! For fuck sake leave the HP movies alone! You r doing this to make the extra buck. IT"S RETARDED! I didn't mind 3D that much but this is fucking overkill! 3D belong in Disney World or Universal, you know theme parks. I hate what movies have become with 3D. It ruins the look of a movie and it's ruins the movie itself.

I honestly don't give a fuck.. I won't be seeing it in 3-D either way. They just better show it in standard IMAX and not just IMAX3D.. or there will be problems!

I'm happy that Order of the Phoenix and The Half Blood Prince are both going to be re-released in theaters. I also think it's a cool idea to bring them back in 3D. Sure, 3D conversion usually sucks, but I'd really like to see Order of the Phoenix in theaters again, and if this 3D ploy is the only way to get that, then so be it.

This news is a couple weeks old. They never said they werent releasing part 1 in 3d, only that they were pushing the date. Websites were reporting, even this one, that they werent going to rush HPDH1 for 3d conversion to coincide with the 2d release. They are taking there time with it to make it as decent as it can be and probably goign to release the 3d version probably a little bit before part 2 is released. AS for up-conversion of the older movies .. bleh.

Ugh

This is exactly what I was talking about when everyone was over-praising Warners in the update about Deathly Hallows not being in 3D, and I got negged approximately one hundred billion times. Approximately

How bout you make sure Deathly Hallows is good and ready to go before you start concentrating on re-releasing the previous movies in 3D? I used to love 3D, but these studios are really killin' it.
