Harry Potter being converted to 3D after all?

After announcing that HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS would not be converted to 3D for its release later this year, Warner Bros. has announced that some other POTTER films would be getting converted to 3D. The studio announced that ORDER OF THE PHOENIX and THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE are currently going through a 3D conversion for Blu-ray and a possible theatrical re-release.

The good news is that the studio seems to have learned from its experience working with the 3D conversion process on DEATHLY HALLOWS. Instead of forcing itself into a tight deadline that it might not make, they’re not announcing any possible release dates for either a Blu-ray or theatrical release of the films, allowing them to take as much time as they need to get the conversion right.

While the immediate announcement only confirms a Blu-ray release, I have a hard time believing that the studio would spend all the money necessary to convert the movies to 3D for a format as untested as Blu-ray 3D. The success of PHOENIX and PRINCE will likely pave the way for additional POTTER films to see the conversion. All this makes me wonder that if, despite not releasing the film in 3D, the studio is still working on converting DEATHLY HALLOWS.
