Harry Potter grabs a Hammer: Daniel Radcliffe meets The Woman in Black

07.19.2010

Daniel Radcliffe seems like he plans to mix it up in his post-Hogwarts career. Not only is he doing an update of the classic ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT, but he's dipping into some old-school horror.

The HARRY POTTER star has joined THE WOMAN IN BLACK, from the recently revived Hammer Films. The adaptation of Susan Hill’s bestseller will come from director James Watkins (EDEN LAKE), with a script from Jane Goldman (KICK-ASS) that Radcliffe says is "both tender and terrifying in equal measure."

The story follows young lawyer Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), "who is ordered to travel to a remote corner of the UK and sort out a recently deceased client’s papers. As he works alone in an old and isolated house, Kipps begins to uncover its tragic secrets, and his unease grows when he discovers that the local village is held hostage by the ghost of a scorned woman set on vengeance."

The movie starts production in the Fall. Hammer also has LET ME IN (the US remake of LET THE RIGHT ONE IN) coming up -- we should hear more about that from Comic Con.

Extra Tidbit: Who else is primed to survive the POTTER franchise with a satisfying career? And who will make their living signing photos at conventions?

Am sold on this just by the director, Eden Lake is a very bold piece of work. Look forward to seeing how this turns out.

The play of The Woman In Black is one of the best things I've seen. The book isn't quite as strong, but still very good and very adaptable - should be interesting...

I think Radcliff and Grint will do well, maybe even Felton (draco), but don't think Watson will do so well.

They'll all have pretty solid careers.
1. Radcliffe is cool and a good actor. I can't stand him in Potter, but that's due to being the thankless role as a hero.
2. Rupert Grint has uncommon comic skill and is a pretty reliable character support actor.
3. Watson will get plenty of modelling work before shes 30 and have school grades to fall on after that.

Actually, Martin Scorsese said he'd never said that as he'd never seen the Potter movies and hadn't seen any of Grint's work. Watson hasn't signed up for anything yet except for school and modelling so far. This is a pretty interesting project and now they're saying it won't be 3d after all. I'm was stoked to hear they were making it before and now I'm really stoked to hear who's in it now! Hopefully it will be out sooner than later

So far I think all three are building

a career. Rupert Grint's caught Martin Scorsese's eye, Emma Watson is turning into quite the polished actress and Radcliffe's done theatre and now this movie. I think, barring any unexpected crap, they'll all forge pretty decent careers.

Nice

It's good to know he's got some things (interesting things at that) lined up for when this Potter business is all said and done.
