Has M. Night Shyamalan been secretly filming a new horror movie?

03.03.2014

Last month we learned M. Night Shyamalan will be working with Bruce Willis again for the romantic drama LABOR OF LOVE, but has he also been stealthily directing a new movie? Shyamalan recently tweeted this picture of a slate for a movie called SUNDOWNING, and although no one is sure what the film is about, some think it could be a horror movie.

M. Night Shyamalan has directed a few thrillers, but none of his films have been straight-up horror. Based on the title alone, SUNDOWNING could possibly be about vampires or some global catastrophe involving the sun (hey, I'm just guessing here), but sundowning is also a psychological phenomenon some patients with forms of dementia (Alzheimer's, for example) experience when the sun sets.

With LABOR OF LOVE not being the typical type of film from M. Night Shyamalan, will he also be exploring the horror genre with SUNDOWNING? And why is this the first we're hearing about this project? There hasn't been an official announcement or anything, so what the hell is SUNDOWNING? I'm sure there will be more news about the new film in the future, but right now there is very little information on SUNDOWNING.

Budget is only $200,000! I'm hip!

WOO-HOO! I'll bet this movie will be excellent. He's going to focus the minimal budget on strong actor-interaction and dynamic cinematography. Great decision. You're the man, Mr. Shyamalan! It's impossible for this masterpiece to flop with such a low budget.

Wow. A lot of red and black posts got thumbed down. I'm beginning to think that M Night is secretly viewing the comment section.

I'm down for an M. Night horror movie only if:
1) The movie does not have a big name actor attached to it. This will keep the budget lower, lessen viewers expectation, and to keep any more big name actors from ruining their career.
2) He does not cast himself in the movie. At least just play a very minor cameo with unrecognizable make up, for crap sake. I loved The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, both of which does not feature him in a noticeable role.
3) Twist endings are fine, as long as it

4) He does not stray from what he does best, which is the horror and suspense genre. He already proven that he sucked at children's fantasies and sci fi. Stuart Little doesn't count.

Not hating on the dude... but how THE F*CK does he still make movies?! Who trusts him with their money? I was always under the impression that once you crash and burn as many films as this guy it means your career is over and you never make another film again. Did he sell his soul or something?

YES! M. Night is a GENIUS.

M. Night Shyamalan is the MASTER OF SUSPENSE of our generation, striving to generate Hitchcock-inspired thrills since the launch of his career in the late 90s. "The Sixth Sense" got him 3 Oscar nominations for Best [Original] Writer, Best Director, and Best Picture of the Year. And the movie continues to be the highest-grossing Thriller of all time.
No other living Suspense/Thriller filmmaker has achieved the greatness that Shyamalan has.

I'm also excited for "Labor of Love", even though

I'm also excited for "Labor of Love", even though it's not a Suspense/Thriller. Romantic Dramas can be brilliant too. Shyamalan has been an inspiration to me since I was a boy, and he'll continue to be as long as he keeps doing what he loves. Great news about him making Thrillers again (including the new "Wayward Pines" TV series.)

I bet....

it'll suck. He just sucks now. I'm not going to mention the last few movies he did. Even though the happening is quite possibly the funniest greatest movie made. because of how utterly stupid and profoundly dumb it is.

How he is able to make films and get them into production is beyond me. But I remember reading (I think on here) around 3 years ago that he was filming a secret movie with Bruce Willis (this was about the time that Devil was in production.)

Never heard anything about that again. Hope I never hear anything again about this one either.

I think the bigger question is: does anyone care? I've given him a chance on nearly every movie he's done, but no more. I didn't even both with Last Airbender and I saw After Earth for free (thankfully). The only thing I liked about After Earth was that I was lucky enough to see it in 4K, and I have to admit the film did look pretty beautiful in 4K. Even when Lady In The Water came out, he was still a name that would be enough to bring me to the theater, but that time has passed. Now, I wait

He obviously has the talent, as he has had enough successes to show for it. But he hasn't shown any signs of improving, so I will have to wait for reviews of any new film he does.

Let's hope so...

...he must really miss directing his own films. His movies were always an event and there's something to love about all of his films except The Happening. I didn't watch Last Airbender because it wasn't one of his own films and I reluctantly watched After Earth which ended up being way better than most people said.

I'm wondering if this is maybe intended to be another film in the vein of Devil. I remember he wanted to either direct or produce some smaller thrillers and the only one so far

That College Humor video was better than anything Shymalan has done in over a decade.

It's said the man who brought us The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable has consistently made one bad film over the other.

I like m night, and he's made too many good films for me to write him off completely. I hope this is a return to his earlier years of great films.

He lost me with THE LAST AIRBENDER

There were so many rookie mistakes in that movie that it was clear he doesn't know what he's doing behind a camera. I'm amazed people are still willing to hand him $$$ to make his movies.

Maybe he's secretly filming a movie because its so bad that no studios want to pay him to make movies now. Seriously, this guy is just awful.

Well it has to be a secret because no one wants him directing another horror movie... or any movie for that matter.

Shyamalan hasn't made a good film since Unbreakable. We'll have to see how this latest film (or films) fare..

Hasn't made a good film since The Village. This new film with him and Willis should be interesting.

Honestly, the guy has run out of strikes with me. It would take another picture on the same level of The Sixth Sense or Unbreakable to get me to take him seriously again. I'm not sure he has it in him.
