Has Marvel made an offer to Bradley Cooper to voice Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy?

Aug. 22, 2013by: Jesse Giroux

Cooper/Rocket Raccoon

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is currently filming, yet they still don't have anyone to do the voice for Rocket Raccoon. According to Latino-Review though, Marvel may have finally found someone and that person is Bradley Cooper. A source for the site says while an offer from Marvel has been made to Cooper's reps, he has not accepted it yet so nothing is official. Plus, there's always a chance a source could be wrong: what if he didn't hear it right and they were actually talking about Dominic Cooper? I'm kidding, but you get my point.

I am slightly disappointed, only because some of the other names rumored sounded fantastic. It's taken some time for me to warm up to Cooper, however he should do an excellent job and is a good fit for the part.

If he does accept the part, Bradley Cooper will be joining Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Michael Rooker (Yondu) and maybe Vin Diesel (Groot). GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY has an awesome cast and I have extremely high hopes for James Gunn's film. I hate to use the word quirky to describe GOTG, but the film really does look like it's going to be full of some odd fun.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is in theaters August 1st, 2014.

Some poster on this site mentioned Danny DeVito a while back - I can't think of anyone else for the role now. As for Cooper, I swear Marvel just want to f*ck with WB - Cooper's my Flash unless they decide to reboot Green Lantern and move Reynolds over to Flash...but wooooh boy, just wait a darn tootin second - I'm getting ahead of myself...WB's are not that forward thinking. They'll get their act together when Marvel has taken all the very best of Hollywood...leaving Sony and Fox the rest.

He's not my first choice but the more I think about it, the more it starts to make sense. Keep in mind that it's not an official confirmation but it is pretty nteresting. Many believe that it's a lazy and uninspired choice but I believe Cooper has the potential to make this role his. If it is indeed official, then I will gladly accept it and my faith in James Gunn's film will remain unshaken.

Cooper is a fine actor but I don't think its right. I was hoping for Rocket to have a memorable voice (with an accent, and all). I was hoping for some prestige English actor such as Sir Patrick Stewart.

No to Cooper

His voice has no "character". Steve Buscemi or (personal choice) Bruce Campbell. Or hire a seasoned voice actor like Clancy Brown.

I'd be fine with Coops but I read an interesting suggestion last night... Quinton Tarintino! Odd choice but the more I think of it the more I like it!

wrong direction

I understand he'll help sell tickets and I do like B Coop, but he'll cost way more than a proper voice actor would (many of the aformentioned voice actors for instance). I believe any of those voice actors mentioned would do a better job anyways.

Rocket Raccoon needs a gravelly tough voice... I'd love for them to offer it to someone like Clint Eastwood.

Would have pegged Cooper for Quicksilver, if any Marvel character at all. I kind of picture RR to have a gritty voice, with a slight Boston, New York, Jersey accent... don't know why, just did. Glad it's not Vin Diesel, that was a close one.

Wait and see, but I'm not optimistic

Too many successful actors (Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, to name just two) have died in the voice booth, simply because they don't know how to project a character using just their voice. I'd be much happier if they'd cast an established voice actor like Kevin Conroy or John DiMaggio for the role. Even a successful actor-turned-voice actor - Mark Hamill, for instance - would have been an inspired choice.

When it comes to Rocket's voice, it should be Greg Ellis. He did a mighty fine job on Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 as the character already.

It's their money but . . .

I always wonder why they spend big bucks on expensive stars to do voice over work when they can find a talented unknown who could do a just as great a job for a fraction of the price.

I love Cooper but....

I always believed that a voiceover should be someone with a cool sounding voice, a voice that is distinct, not necessarily recognizable as some movie star, but something that stands out. Kinda like the voice of the guy in that new JJ Abrams teaser, but Coopers voice is very ho hum, but maybe that will fir the character as I dont know much about him.

Hmmm, not sure on this. Not saying he's a bad choice, but he's definitely not the best choice. I think there are certainly some better choices out there like Steve Buscemi, Denis Leary, or Jason Statham. But if this is the best they can do, I don't think I'll be disappointed.

I actually kinda dig this idea. Look, not many people have an idea about what their definitive version of Rocket Raccoon would be. I am a lifelong comic book nerd and I have no idea who or what he is. Cooper could give the character a level of arrogance and snark that might be compelling.

Meh

I think Cooper could do a fine job. He's shown himself to be more malleable and daring as of late and he always seems to give his all to a project. But I was still hoping for a very distinct voice. I was surprised at myself when I thought the best name that was thrown out for Rocket was Jason Statham. I am not a fan of Statham's but I think his voice would be perfect for the character.

Was holding out for John DiMaggio, but I guess they will get a big name. A fellow schmoe suggested Denis Leary, which would be all kinds of perfect.

Howsabout nah

Doesn't really do it for me.
The rumor about Christian Slater on the other hand sounded really cool and inspired.
He has that cool and sarcastic voice.
Make it happen, Marvel!!

I'm okay with that mostly cause I thought he could be a pretty good Nathan Drake if Uncharted movie ever happened.

I don't hate the guy or anything, but that's one boring, uninspired casting choice right there. It would be a big letdown after all the other casting announcements.

Good choice. He has that smart ass tone to his voice that could work beautifully for a character like this.

Would love to see Cooper voice Rocket Racoon. He would definitely be a great choice and would be an inspired choice and would do a hell of a job. Cooper can do Drama, Comedy, and Action all very well and would easily fit in with this type of film.

Hope it turns out to be true.
