Has the big screen line-up for Justice League been revealed?

Jan. 2, 2013by: Alex Maidy

JUSTICE LEAGUE is probably the most rumored about movie after STAR WARS: EPISODE VII at this point. Both films have huge potential that rests firmly on the right choices for directing and acting. But, where STAR WARS is already an established money-maker, DC Comics and Warner Bros. are still gambling with JUSTICE LEAGUE. Assuming MAN OF STEEL goes well this summer, JUSTICE LEAGUE has the daunting task of introducing an entire squad of heroes for the first time.

Cosmic Book News is claiming to have gotten inside news from a source at DC about who the full roster of JUSTICE LEAGUE heroes will be, along with some additional characters. None of these really reveal anything new about the plot or film itself, but we now have a list of who to expect to populate the Halls of Justice.

• Superman is essentially the same character from MAN OF STEEL, and Zack Snyder is consulting regarding the writing of the character.

• Batman: The strategist of the group. Batman doesn't really want to be involved with these super powered beings he considers too powerful. Easily the most complex written.

• Wonder Woman: She has only been in man's world a few short months. The Wonder Woman script Michael Goldenberg is developing will be set before the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie.

• Green Lantern: Will be Ryan Reynold's character from the GREEN LANTERN movie, but will be freshly written with a more serious tone.

• Flash: The most popular hero in civilian eyes who loves media attention, but when called upon is very serious.

• Martian Manhunter: Alien who has lived on Earth in secret for over a hundred years who has knowledge of Darkseid and his reign.

• Aquaman: Will be the King of Atlantis who has a key role in the film.

• There will also be a heavy military presence in the film which in future rewrites could include characters featured in Man of Steel or even Amanda Waller (Angela Bassett) of which neither are included in the first draft.

• Alfred Pennyworth is in the film in a minor appearance.

• Lois Lane is also in the film in a cameo.

• Darkseid's Elite will be featured who go up against the Justice League early on in the film.

Interesting to note is that GREEN LANTERN is listed as being the same character that Ryan Reynolds played. So, does that mean Reynolds is coming back or just that the role will be recast, Hulk-style? This also appears to be the first news that Martian Manhunter and Aquaman would be in the movie. In the end, assuming only Henry Cavill will be returning as Superman, Warner Bros. has to cast 6 heroes and introduce 4 for the first time in a movie.

I would have no problem bringing Reynolds back for the movie. GREEN LANTERN suffered from poor writing more than anything. But, this is not going to be an easy task for any filmmaker, which could explain why we still haven't heard who will be directing JUSTICE LEAGUE. Stay tuned for more news.

Solid Roster.

So nice to hear some reasonable criticism for Green Lantern. Was it flawed? Yes. But terrible it was not. The cast was exceptional, and the concept design & CG was perfect for the character. Hopefully, this rumor of RR's return is true. Sadly, my biggest reservation is still the lack of solo films (for at least Wonder Woman). J'onn's presence would really ease my concern. Especially if he was the "Nick Fury" device bringing them all together.

Michael Rosenbaum for Flash! He was great in the animated series, easy transition into the character.

This line up would make sense if they followed the Marvel way, introducing each character in separate movies, and then going all out with Justice League. But as it stands these are very large and complex characters to be hastily introduced and developed in a single movie.
I would've much preferred a mix of established and less known characters: Superman, Green Lantern, Flash, Blue Beetle, Ice, Dr Fate, etc.

I say keep Ryan Reynolds, they can do a serious tone with him if they want too. Funny what the article says about Batman, considering he keeps files on the JLA and knows what exactly to do to defeat each and every one of them if they were to ever go rogue. Aquaman I could care less about. Manhunter will a difficult character to pull off since he would mostly be cgi. I dont care what people say.. Flash has and always has been just a stupid character. All he does is run super fast and can

All he does is run super fast and can reverberate himself though solid objects. Maybe Darkseid could have one his lackeys kill him off early. I think Wonder Woman, along with Batman could be the most fun to watch in action as they are both masters at hand to hand fighting. Although with Darkseid I imagine Bats will be donning some serious bat armor and gadgets. .

p.s That Alex Ross pic is totally bad ass would love a huge blow up of that hanging on my wall.

If they're genuinely considering Martian Manhunter there's a chance they're going to try and do it properly, which bodes well.

Flash: The most popular hero in civilian eyes

That alone is worth tearing the script into millions of little pieces... Flash was considered the goofball of the group but he was more of a joke in the media than a "favorite" that honor always went to Wonderwoman and Superman.

There were 2 different Flashes on the Justice League. One was a goofball, the other was so well liked the people of his HQ city opened a museum to him.

Not enough time

Are they still aiming for a 2015 release? Yeah, good luck with that. Simply put, too many characters, too little time. They should stop trying to beat Marvel in a game that they have lost already and work on creating their own cinematic universe. They need to reboot Batman and possibly even Green Lantern, considering how badly it failed... A project this big, requires time and careful planning, it just seems to me that they are going in half cocked in order to have an event movie of their own

THANK GOD!!! (for now!)

This is the line up I was hoping for (with the exception of Captain Marvel who should be included)! I am
relieved to hear that AQUAMAN is going to be in the film (if this rumor turns out to be true) as long as he's not made out to be a joke, which he most certainly is not. AQUAMAN was one of the original founders of the JUSTICE LEAGUE as was FLASH & MARTIAN MANHUNTER. If they keep this line-up then they will do good I think as long as they have a perfect script. He means Captain Marvel as "Shazam!" aka Billy Baston though Marvel has Mar-vell also called Captain Marvel as well as other names. It's rather confusing honestly.

Flash - YES, Aquaman [link] are going to screw this up. They are putting themselves in a position to NEED Ryan Reynolds. The more I read about this the more zeros get added to the end of the check they will have to write Christian Bale in an effort to get him on board for what I am sure will be a glorified cameo. It could work, but...

This movie could workk if Warner Brothers avoids meeting Marvel blow to blow. Superman, Batman and Green Lantern (despite the miss) will be already established characters. So they could take a page from the Justice League animated series and bring the other guys in with little backstory into this movie. DC hs one built-in advantage over Marvel, their heroes are icnic. While it would work to follow the Marvel approach and build each hero one movie at a time, I don't think there is a need for

Marvel's heaviest hitter with the casual comic book reader or the general public is Spider-Man. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman are widely known already, Green Lantern's story is establshed, so that leaves Flash, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter. Of those three, the Manhunter probably needs the most development as he's the least known. Darkseid is an epic villain a la Darth Vader, not a one-hit wonder.

What DC should do is go for a trilogy in an epic scale. As I said before, think Lord of The Rings or Star Wars instead of aping Marvel. Marvel's strategy was one tat involved a lot of risks, smart directorial choices, and a certain level of self-confidence bordering on pigheadedness in ight of possible pitfalls (Hulk/The Incredible Hulk anyone?). Warner Brothers cannot just mimic this multi-year strategy. Instead think Justice League like the Dark Knight Series, an epic story in three chapters if they want to set their mark.

I look forward to what happens in 2015 espceially as The Man of Steel is shaping up well.

Assuming Cavill and Reynolds return as Supes and GL, that leaves us with casting the rest. Imma go with:
- Gina Carano as WW (has always been my first choice)
- Liam Hemsworth for Aquaman (love the irony)
- Chewitel Eljifor for MM
- not sure for Flash since I don't know if this is supposed to be Barry Allen or Wally West
- and for Batman they should just put a stunt guy in a batsuit and dubover Kevin Conroy's voice throughout the whole thing.

I really hope this movie turns out to be great. And after reading the descriptions for each character, I really hope that Reynolds comes back as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern since I loved that movie and him as the hero.

If I were casting, Henry Cavill as Superman, Jon Hamm as Batman, Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern, Bradley Cooper as The Flash, and Alexander Skaarsgard or Josh Holloway for Aquaman. I don't know who I would pick for Wonder Woman or Martian Manhunter.

I'm excited for this film and no one can take that from me, it's the line up I hoped for, the villain I want, I say bring back Ryan Reynolds as GL seeing as he wasn't the reason Green lantern sucked and just go for it all on this one, don't look towards the franchise potential just go and make a hell of a superhero film DC and WB.

This movie is not happening

I agree with Guy. They're trying to be Marvel, but it took Marvel YEARS to get to that results.
Except for DC fans, nobody cares or even knows about half of their characters. They don't even have a new Batman yet. No wonder they're trying to get Gordon-Levitt, because they don't want to take their time to establish a new Batman. This movie is doomed and it will KILL any new interesting Batman film to come.
I don't care for Justice League. Never worked for me. Leave Batman in his own

Yes actually there are some other way : take it one movie at a time, just like Marvel. Don't rush the thing.
My 50% is not calculated, it's an expression, a way of speaking. Just to say that if you actually look at the numbers, Batman Begins didn't break any records, far from it. It just re-established the franchise and not a lot of people went to see it compared to the sequels. That means two things : one is that Nolan hit the right notes and people discovering the movie on home video liked

It just re-established the franchise and not a lot of people went to see it compared to the sequels. That means two things : one is that Nolan hit the right notes and people discovering the movie on home video liked it and were interested in seeing the sequel (plus, you know, Heath Ledger). Two, these people, who went to see Nolan's films and liked them without being comic-book fans, are not interested in seing Batman in space, fighting aliens. What they went for was Nolan's cop drama "realistic" vision. Also, The Dark Knight Rises divided people. Some were looking for more of the same, but Nolan went epic in scope and scale and that didn't click as much as TDK.
At this point, without established heroes, people don't care for a Justice League movie. I'm a comic-book reader and I don't care for a Justice League movie, especially if it means ruining any future attempts at a dark and gritty Batman.
Also, I'm French and I at least try to use correct English when I write.

I agree with Frenchie.......now one knows majority of the characters, just like marvel. And I wanted to piggies back frenchies comment on the Batman Begins thing, the second movie was only popular cuz of Heaths death, sucks it happened cuz he was real good in that movie, but that was one of the main factors why that movie did so well, if Anne Hathaway died during or after filming of the DKR im sure it would have had a repeat effect. Just a opinion, I could be wrong.

I genuinely don't think this movie will happen.

Maybe one day in the future of course, but I really can't see it happening within the next five years or so. They're trying much much too hard and for all the wrong reasons.

Take a step back WB, breathe in, forget rushing to meet The Avengers, take your time and do it properly.

I don't like the idea of this movie. Don't get wrong, I love comic book movies, I just don't think the DC universe has done a good job at creating a continuous universe the way marvel did. I can't picture the Nolan Batman in an world where Aliens exist, nor do I want to. Man of Steel seems to have a completely different tone to the Batman movies as well. What

Gina Carano CAN'T ACT! NOT HER FOR WONDER WOMAN

I thought you guys would know that people shouldn't be cast based on looks alone, but I guess we don't all know that. Gina Carano can't act, plain and simple. So unless WB wants their movie to suck, no casting Gina Carano

I'd be all for Gina Carano even though she is a bit too short. She has the build and looks and skills. I'd be happy to see Ryan Renolds back along with Henry Cavill should he work out in Man of Steel. The rest, good luck. WB really screwed up by not catching up to Marvel's multi-verse. Sure the avengers stand alone movies were ok at best, it did give them a backstory. Here we will have GL and Superman and kind of Batman.
I still think Darkseid is too powerful for a first film though. Oh well.

Perfect Line-Up!

Hope they can handle the introduction of all these big characters, would prefer the Marvel route with some getting a solo-film first.
They could (and should) do Wonder Woman and Flash movies first and introduce Aquaman in Justice League to show that he IS badass and deserves his own movie.

But I think the movie is still far away, so wait and see...

This could be cool.

Wonder woman: alexandra daddario

i think she would be a great WW. She got a huge rack, blueish eyes, dark hair, and a nice curvish frame.
and shes super hot

Good choice! She's beautiful and has great eyes, but still looks a little young for Wonder Woman.

Gina was great in HAYWIRE and she's the only one I can think of that I'd buy as being able to kick-ass and not be a stick figure.

Gina was good in Haywire because of her physicality. She wasn't given much acting to do aside from being emotionally stoic and generally kick ass. I'll be honest, though, I'm looking forward to her in Fast Six.

If staring vacantly at the camera and biting your lip is cinsodered good acting, then Kristen Stewart is Meryl Streep.
