Hayley Atwell on if she would be interested in starring in an Agent Carter TV series: "Definitely"

It's been rumored Marvel is trying to develop a television series based on Hayley Atwell's Agent Carter from CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER and the most recent One-Shot, but many have wondered if Atwell would still play the character in a series. Hayley Atwell has talked about her love for the character in the past, however that doesn't necessarily mean she's willing to commit to an entire series based on the ass-kicking agent.

While talking to Digital Spy, Hayley Atwell was asked about Marvel's plans for a possible television series:

"I read about that too. The one-shot was so successful, the fanbase were like, 'We want more of Peggy!'. I think Marvel probably take that very seriously, and it's certainly something I would be a part of doing. I'd be interested to show different sides of Peggy."

Atwell goes on to say she would love to play the character in a series and has really enjoyed working with Marvel.

"I think she could be a great role model and a great member of the Marvel Universe. I love the Marvel lot, they're really great people to work with, so it would be nice to go back and work with them again. I'd definitely do it."

Marvel should be taking this seriously. Fans obviously enjoy the character and if Hayley Atwell is game for a television series that's good news for Marvel. Part of the reason why fans have taken a liking to Agent Carter is because of Atwell, and if Marvel had to re-cast for a television series, I don't think people would be too happy about the news. But with Hayley Atwell interested in playing the character again, that's one less thing Marvel would have to worry about and hopefully that means an Agent Carter series will happen.

They could use this as a way

to establish the original SHIELD organization with Stark's help, and to follow up on the first Captain America film, even work Cap in with flashbacks...

this could be an epic love story

It'd be heartbreaking but ultimately epic to see what agent carter has to go through while cap is gone. I don't really know the story arc in the comics or anything but what I'd like to see is this woman go through a series on her own, 5 - 6 seasons, but not age by 1 year after each season but rather maybe by 3 or 4 or 5 (they could make her look older and older).

Until finally at the end, she dies but maybe not before hearing that there's a chance rogers could return in the future. Maybe

I'm just spit-balling but yeah.. I can already feel the strings on my heart pull from the twists and turns this series could have.

I really like Agent Carter Marvel One Shot and hopefully if the TV series is real Hayley Atwell would reprise the role.

I think this is a great idea. While the Agents of SHIELD TV show can fill in the blanks in The Avengers timeline, an Agent Carter show could fill in the gaps in the Avengers history.

I'm still standing by the idea that while it's not a terrible concept, I don't really see how it will help move the Marvel Cinematic Universe forward, being a period piece and not concurrent with the Phase 2 and 3 goings-on. I guess it could fill in the gaps in the history, but if critics thought an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show would be a hard sell, what about a period-set television show centering on the love interest of a major character - with the character guaranteed to not show up?

If she is game to come back and play the role, than I don't understand why you wouldn't make a television series. I think it would be a good companion piece with Agents of Sheld.

I want to see this!

Agent Carter needs a show. Set it as a period piece, add some awesome supporting cast members like the original Human Torch perhaps? Maybe other SHIELD agents like Dum Dum Dugan - perhaps even other members of the Howling Commandos, or even Mary & Richard Parker and you've got a great supporting cast of characters! Regular guest appearances by Nick Fury (since he has the Infinity Formula) wouldn't hurt either.
