Hayley Atwell really wants an Agent Carter movie

09.29.2016

Though Marvel movies are guaranteed box office smashes, their TV department isn’t always as lucky. Even though shows like DAREDEVIL and JESSICA JONES are critical darlings and AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. is in its fourth season, the show AGENT CARTER never really found the success the others did. The show starring Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter from the CAPTAIN AMERICA series got great critical reception and had a following of fans, but iffy ratings led to the shows cancellation after 18 episodes. On top of that, we saw Carter’s funeral during the course of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, signifying, perhaps, the last time we will see Agent Carter in the Marvel universe.

That being said, not even death can stop Atwell from wanting to step into the badass heroine’s shoes again. During an interview with CBR, Atwell talked about how the death of Carter impacted her:

“Aw! Well, I don’t feel like I’ve said goodbye to her. She does still seem to live on a lot for the fans. And Marvel is still such a big part of my career, especially my professional family, that I would absolutely not rule out the idea of going back to Peggy at some point, seeing her in other avenues. I love her, and I hope that she has a life elsewhere at another time.”

Atwell mentioned that during talks about the show the notion of a special was floated around (not unlike the recent SHERLOCK: THE ABOMINABLE BRIDE), an idea (and the possibility of a movie) is something Atwell won’t let go quietly into the night:

“I hound [Marvel Studios co-president Louis] D’Esposito on a regular basis, saying, ‘Give me a movie!’ I think the great thing about Peggy is, we know from “[Captain America: The] Winter Soldier” that she lives a long life, so she can come back. I’m banking on, when I’m in my fifties, I’m like, ‘This is the time. Let’s see what Peggy’s up to in this decade.’ ”

It’s a shame ABC cancelled AGENT CARTER. What I saw of it was pretty fun and clearly the show had its base of fans. But who knows, maybe the character is meant for bigger things like a movie or extended TV special. With so much talk around female comic book characters getting their own movies maybe the idea of a movie around Agent Carter, one that delves into all the other adventures we haven’t seen her go on, would be a pretty easy sell for the folks at Marvel. Hell, maybe they could move the show over to Netflix or Hulu, somewhere that doesn'y rely so heavily on ratings. That may just be false hope, but still, can’t blame a guy for wanting to see Peggy Carter punch a few more chauvinistic men in the face.

I do like her idea of waiting till she's a bit older and then setting in it the 60s or 70s. You could totally make a throwback coldwar spy thriller with that concept. Maybe there's even a pre-Avengers Avengers initiative involved. I'd love to see what a designer would do with a superhero's costume design in the age of polyester

Yes but don't set it in the 40s. We had a movie and 18 episodes set in the 40s. We want to see Agent Carter in the 50s and 60s, the cold war era.

I don't think she needs a movie. I liked the first season, but the second one was just ok. I would think they could use her as part of the Agents of SHIELD show, either in flash backs or having someone from SHIELD travel back in time, to close out the cliffhanger from season 2 and address the forming of SHIELD.

I would love a Agent Carter movie. With SHIELD being built around her and all the Alien tech and interesting gadgets that AoS has been hinting at they could really make a tie in. Maybe she encounters something that could be pinnacle to defeating Thanos. This would be a good setup that the Coulson and crew find. With all these sub arcs and talks about Peggy Carter be in SHIELDS/Avengers shadow it would make sense she had some knowledge about the Infinity Stones in some way that could be

No....

I love Hayley Atwell. She's gorgeous and portrays an incredibly strong woman very convincingly. I really enjoy the story of Peggy Carter and think it's great the way Marvel has made her the cornerstone of SHIELD (without hitting you in the face with the feminist sledgehammer). That said, the TV show was great, but couldn't find an audience. There is ZERO reason to have a Peggy Carter movie, and having one would result in a huge failure for Marvel and a sad ending to Carter in the MCU.

Would love to see her story continued in some way, especially since the show ended on a damn cliffhanger!

TV movie, perhaps?

I'm all for this. The more Hayley Atwell in my life the better.

More Agent Carter!!

All they need is better writing. I want to see at least a TV movie of Agent Carter in the 50s or 60s, perhaps about her actually forming S.H.I.E.L.D. from the ashes of the SSR. A theatrical release would be better because of the better production values and larger budget.

I think it's a travesty that we may never get to see Agent Carter interact with the Golden Age Human Torch and Sub-Mariner. How awesome it would be if Marvel made a series or a movie where she becomes the field leader of The Invaders.

I'd love to see an Invaders movie (or if not a movie then a miniseries)

Back in the day, Marvel talked about doing smaller films between their big tentpoles and an Invaders-ish one would have been awesome. They could have Agent Carter, the 1950's Capt. America (perhaps Jason O'Mara's Jeffrey Mace), Union Jack, Golden Age Human Torch (if rights weren't an issue), Blonde Phantom, and Ka-Zar travelling to the Savage Land to stop Hydra. It'd be a cool H. Rider Haggard / Alan Quartermain style adventure and would be the most natural way in the world to introduce Namor

Plus, if it was a hit then that could lead to a Ka-Zar movie, which is what I really want to see.

Can't they just call him The Torch? The Human Flame? Heck, Toro? I'm pretty sure Marvel could get around that issue if they try. Add in The Blazing Skull (which is perfect to coincide with Ghost Rider showing up on SHIELD) and I'd watch the heck out of that.

We've already established that Anr Man was around during the cold war era. Perhaps he could be made part of a covert group. That could simply be the plot of Ant Man 3: lots of flashbacks and a present day adventure that ties into it.

"Money me. Money now"

"Me a money, needing a lot now." - Hayley Atwell.

This is how I read any speculative "I want to do a ___ movie that'll never happen."

Can we not do this? I feel like she's lucky to have gotten a show
