HBO announces premiere date for Game of Thrones season 2

HBO has announced that its award-winning fantasy/drama series Game of Thrones will kick off its second season on Sunday, April 1st, 2012.

The series, executive produced by D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, takes place in the fictional realm of Westeros where political intrigue, savage violence, and otherworldy threats collide in the race to rule from the iron throne. Based on the series of novels “A Song of Ice and Fire” by author George R.R. Martin, the show is one of the most engaging, involved, and detailed on the air.

If I could watch only one show this year it would be Game of Thrones. It’s chock full of character, violence, and has massive balls. After seeing the first season I read all of the novels up to the most current one and, believe me, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. You don’t need to read the books to enjoy the show as the producers have taken every step to ensure accuracy and respect to the source material, but it sure couldn’t hurt as they are an amazing read.

If you’re all caught up on the book and frothing at the mouth for more, the author recently posted a sample chapter up on his official site that picks up right where the last book left off. If you want to steer clear of any spoilage, I recommend you skip the link.

Check out HBO’s official site to see production videos, cast and crew bios, and a nifty character breakdown to keep you straight on who’s who in the world of Westeros.

Personally, I can’t wait. I think I’m going to go lock myself in a room and play Skyrim until April 1st, at which point I’ll just come out to eat a bowl of cereal, watch Game of Thrones, and then, maybe get a job and be a productive member of society. I said MAYBE.
