HBO's True Blood will finally be coming to an end in 2014

Sep. 3, 2013by: Niki Stephens

Are you still watching TRUE BLOOD? If you are still a faithful follower of the HBO series, it was announced today that the seventh season would be the last.

The viewership started off strong then I'd say that after the third season the interest started to taper. The storylines started to get ridiculous and veered far from what fans had read in Charlaine Harris' "Sookie Stackhouse" novels. I still kept watching through all of this. I think I was annoyed more than anything else though I did suffer bouts of secondhand embarrassment. I didn't read the books so I'm just waiting to see how it all ends.

The seventh season will air in 2014 with a ten episode run. I have yet to catch up on the sixth season but it was spoiled for me. So I know why fans are upset at how the finale ended. However, I think that they will find a way to remedy that situation.

HBO President of Programming Michael Lombardo addressed the show coming to an end in a statement:

"True Blood has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO. Alan Ball took the books by Charlaine Harris, assembled a brilliant cast led by the magnificent Anna Paquin in the role of Sookie Stackhouse, and crafted a show that has taken its many devoted fans on an unforgettable journey. Alan passed the baton to Brian Buckner, who led our fantastic writers and crew in crafting a spectacular sixth season, and he will lead us through the seventh and final season of this amazing show. Together with its legions of fans, it will be hard to say goodbye to the residents of Bon Temps, but I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show."

Ball also made comments on his run with the series:

"From the moment I read Charlaine’s books, I thought there was potential for something really special. Then our amazing writers, cast and crew brought her world to life in a way that exceeded my wildest expectations. I'm deeply grateful to HBO for being true partners and collaborators, and, of course, to the viewers who chose to spend Sunday nights in Bon Temps with us."

Are you glad the series will finally be over, or do you think it could go a few more seasons?

True Blood gets 7 seasons and Deadwood gets cancelled after only 3. There is something truly wrong with that.

Anyways I've watched every episode of True Blood, mostly because I felt obligated to after awhile. The first season was great. And the two after that were pretty good as well. Then it all got really campy and really bad. I often found myself wishing that Sookie wasn't the main character of the series, since she could be super annoying and rather dumb at times. I don't know, its kind

If anything its always good for a laugh. So I guess what I'm saying is: about time. Later True Blood, I'll probably never give you a re-watch.

True Blood is my all-time favorite show and I'm very sad that it's ending. I enjoyed every season and definitely think season 6 has been the best season so far. I believe the show had at least 2 more seasons left in it. Even though I'm sad it's ending, I know season 7 is gonna be an EPIC ending to the series.

Jumped The Shark

Yah I wasn't too upset that they basically took the books and threw them out the window, the show was still kind of amusing. But when they got to the whole divinity plot line they jumped the shark and just went out into left field, not to mention the whole fairly thing....really!?
I watch just to see what happens basically so I will check out the last season at my leisure. My wife continually yells at me if I try to tell her whats going on as she has read all the books and I only the first 3.

This show makes me sad because there's so much potential here and it was great for the first few seasons, but then they went batshit crazy for no reason. Storylines that sucked were given to background characters and it was just a mess. If they kept secondary characters secondary and actually let more than 1 second pass between each episode (why did they insist on basically being like 24?!), I think things could have been better. I liked the ending of this past season though; it seemed like

Guess they can always try and at least finish on a high note so hopefully they don't screw it up.

thank god! I started off enjoying the grittiness of the show & was interested in the back stories of the characters, I cant pinpoint what it was that started putting me off... maybe its the fairies and werewolves ... why does everything involving vampires these days have to include bloody werewolves?????

Once the werewolves started I remember saying to my wife.. "whats next zombies, aliens", this show went off the rails like 3 years ago.

Yeah, because quality is directly related to viewership. What a joke.

Tapering? Are we sure we know what that word means?

I'll be the first to agree that the show's quality has deteriorated from its incredible first two seasons - but nearly 9 million people watched the most recent finale, and True Blood still stands as HBO's second highest rated show, behind Game of Thrones. So I'd hardly say the audience is tapering. I think ratings was probably the least important factor in ending the show.

I am behind a couple of seasons, but this show is great. Too bad to hear it coming to a close.

I'm in the minority because I thought the fifth season was easily the best, but I'm actually glad it's ending. Seven seasons is a good run, and the sixth season was pretty silly and had too much character derailment. I hope they end on a high note, but we'll see.

Like a stake through the heart

At first I wasn't sure of what to make about True Blood, but I got into it and liked it. The 4th season had me leaving for good if the 5th season didn't get better and it did. This past season was by far the best and I'm glad they are ending on a high note.

"The vewership started off strong then I'd say that after the third season the interest started to taper."

It's the second highest rated show on HBO behind Game of Thrones.

Say what you will about the quality of the show declining, but the viewership was certainly still there.

I'm happy to see it come to an end. I watch the show habitually when it airs, however as many others have stated it has become ridiculous, gone off the rails, or basically dumb in the past couple years. The only reason I continue to watch is because I've invested so much time in the show; I absolutely have to see how it ends.

Dear True Blood,
You had a nice run but you went off the rails a couple of years ago and now you are just a series of nonsensical crap.
Best,
Dexter Morgan

still fun

I still enjoy True Blood. Sure, by now it is nowhere near the amazing thrill ride it has been for its first three season with ridiculous plotlines andy way to many sidestories and supporting characters, but I can still enjoy it as a campy, crazy vampire show. Hope they will go all out with their final season (unlike Dexter which feels to much like a regular season)

Fack!

I love this show and would have watched at least 9-10 seasons. Sure it has its flaws but I will overlook them because of how awesome it is for the most part. I'm pissed and wondering what the reasons for shutting it down are. Can't be because of lack of making money, ratings, or the cast quitting. This show has either revamped some careers, started some, and made some better along with a lot of fucking money. HBO I think pulled the plug a little premature. But what does have me curious is what

Oh you Bitch HBO.......

Sad to see it go, but seven seasons is a great run for any television show and I think True Blood has finally ran its course. Hopefully, they deliver us a terrific last season.

And also, I want to see the cast branch out more into more movie roles. Especially Skarsgaard and Kwanten.

Meh

First season, FANTASTIC programming. It was all downhill from there. I really won't be disappointed to see it end.
