Helen Mirren wants to be in a Fast & Furious film; Sign her up!

03.30.2015

With FURIOUS 7 almost here, there's the question of how and if the series can continue. Prior to the death of Paul Walker more entries in the series were a sure thing, but now those films are up in the air. I would completely understand if FURIOUS 7 ended up serving as a finale to the whole franchise, but I'm guessing they'll continue onwards. Should FAST AND FURIOUS 8 come to pass, there's already one potential cast member who'd love to be involved: Dame Helen Mirren.

While speaking to Yahoo Movies about her upcoming film WOMAN IN GOLD, she expressed her desire to appear alongside Vin Diesel in the franchise:

My great ambition is to be in a Fast and Furious movie. I so want to be a mad driver in a Fast and Furious movie. My claim to fame is I always do my own driving — I was on Top Gear, and I did [my lap] in a very good time. I keep putting it out there, and they never ask me. I’ll be in Fast and Furious 8. I have to say Vin Diesel is brilliant. I love Vin Diesel. He’s a great guy, smart — I love him. It’s partly because of him I’d like to be in one, but also the driving. I’d also love to do another Red-type movie, because those are such fun to do.

Mirren is no stranger to kicking ass, having been featured in both RED and its sequel as the not-so-retired assassin Victoria Winslow, so I'd be completely open to her entering the ridiculous world of The Fast & The Furious.

Helen Mirren's newest film, WOMAN IN GOLD, tells the true story of Maria Altmann, a Jewish refugee who fled Vienna during World War II and returns decades later to reclaim a painting the Nazis stole from her family: The famous Lady in Gold. The film is set to open April 3, 2015 but our own Chris Bumbray already has his review up. Take it away Chris! Ah, he can't hear me.

What type of role do you imagine Helen taking on in a Fast & Furious film?

Have her and Kurt Russell be former rivals/partners so there's a lot of banter in addition to the ass-kickery!

Wonder if Vin will be singing his own praises now. Don't let her words go to your head Vin. But I think that might be kind of hilarious to see her in one of the films. Maybe she could get some kind of role similar to Kurt Russel's in this new film, but with an action scene of her driving. I am impressed she is so up for doing action like that. It's impressive and very entertaining. I say let them do it.

Yes please, make this happen Vin if you do continue the franchise. John Malkovich & her were the only 2 good things about the RED movies.

Her lap time on Top Gear was actually quite good (still grieving on the end of the road of Top Gear UK). She could be the lead villain in Fast 8, maybe Jason Statham's mother!

Wow. This was my idea since Waker died - have his character have a brother or close friend or maybe the Rock. The actor will be like Mark Wahlberg or just someone able to do action. Walker is supposed to meet him, but the guy is late and Walker is killed by Statham's number 2. This sets up the "Wahlberg" character vs Ong Bak or whoever. My main reason for killing Walkers character off is that I want the series to continue, Vin needs a co-star for a buddy comedy type thing, and his death

My main reason for killing Walkers character off is that I want the series to continue, Vin needs a co-star for a buddy comedy type thing, and his death creates motivation. The film's go from racing to bank robbing to vengeance. So now Vin and "Mark" want vengeance. They go at them, Vin vs Statham, "Mark" vs Ong Bak. Of course they win (captured or to the death), but then they show that Statham's dad runs the operation. Gibson, Stallone, De Niro - any of those guys, and he's the main villain of fast 8, which has Vin with a new co-star. But you could easily use Mirren as Statham's mom, and cast a husband still. Do it

Helen Mirren as Mama Shaw

She busts Statham Shaw out of jail to help continue his quest for vengeance, only to get tangled up with Kurt Russell who has revealed himself to be corrupt.

what? Helen Mirren as Brian O'Conner's mom? the movie ends with her driving a classic modded CRX off a skyscraper, through the bad guy's helicopter, landing (as the chopper explodes), and drifting onto an aircraft carrier. then she says "don't fuck with family". the next scene they're back in Connecticut, sunset, and she's on the BBQ grill with Dom Toretto.

Hell, why not? But I really think this new entry should be the last one of the franchsie. I mean, what else could they really do to keep the storyline, relevance, and action fresh?

These movies recycled the same thing for four movies and then changed it up a bit for three more. And I liked the last two but all these movies are about is action sequences and crappy one liners, they'll can keep em going for at least three more films If they keep up the inventive action and good directing.

Good for her!!

I enjoy hearing actors/actresses and directors talk about action films this way. It brings out the kid in them.

I'm hoping Paul Thomas Anderson and Quentin Tarantino do some sort of gangster action film before they retire, or any type of high concept action film.

When it comes to Tarantino doing a gangster film, I've been saying that for years. Would love to see him tackle the genre.

Tarantino's first three movies were sort of gangster movies. Four if you count Kill Bill Vol. 1.
