Hellboy III and out
Apr. 24, 2008
Guillermo Del Toro has been talking about HELLBOY III to SciFi Wire. Apparently if GOLDEN ARMY does well, he'll be up for making another, but then that will be it.
"If there was ever a third one, I would really make sure that we at least sign a contract that there is no more... No prequels and no sequels: nothing. If that happens, then there is a third one we have planned, and the seeds are planted in this film.
If a third installment becomes a reality, del Toro said the story would shift back to the pulp mythology of the original comic-book series. "The idea for me is to bring back the Nazis characters, but bring them back in a way they would operate now... Meaning, what public face would the Nazis have in 2009/2010? How rich would they be? How in charge could they be? It's not this group of freakies that hide in the sewers, but people that are incredibly rich."
I hate to question Del Toro, since I'm nowhere near worthy, but did I miss the point where contemporary Nazis begun hiding in sewers? Does this really happen? If so, where were they in AVP:R? Anyway, it's unfortunate to think there'll only be one more look at Selma Blair in skin-tight leather, but I'm pretty sure positive thinking will get us through this.

As for the Nazi reference, he just meant that it's not like they're in hiding in some obscure place where nobody can find them (such as...ready? A SEWER!), but in a high-profile place where they are hiding in, as they say, "plain sight."

Perhaps her is referring to the movie "Bulletproof Monk" where contemporary Nazis do indeed dwell in the sewers.

Honestly, I know the Hellboy series is nothing really special (it's a combination of stuff that has been done before), but I love the first one, and think I'll love the second one as well (I'm quite sure of it actually). So a third, forming it into a trilogy, is awesome news to me. I only hope del Torro puts priority of 'At the Mountains of Madness', and probably 'The Hobbit' (if he is still attached), and even his new 'Saturn' movie, over this.
