Henry Cavill to lead Netflix’s The Witcher series as Geralt of Rivia

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Henry Cavill had a great summer this year cocking his arms and sporting a charming mustache in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT, and now fall is starting off on a great foot for the actor. News broke this morning that Cavill will be hunting beasts in a fantasy world as Geralt of Riva for Netflix’s fantasy-drama THE WITCHER. There is no word yet on if his facial hair will be joining and what kind of compensation package it would get.

The show is based on the series of books from Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski (of which Cavill is a fan), which has been turned into a series of popular video games, board games and more. The eight-episode show will center on Cavill’s Geralt, a “solitary monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.” He then comes into contact with a sorceress and a young princess, and together the three must overcome the dangers of the harsh, violent Continent.

Cavil himself took to Instagram to announce his role in a rather cheeky way:

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Netflix/Marvel’s DAREDEVIL, THE DEFENDERS) will be the showrunner and executive producer, while Alik Sakharov (GAME OF THRONES, HOUSE OF CARDS) will serve as EP and direct four episodes of the show. The following four episodes will be helmed by Alex Garcia Lopez (LUKE CAGE) and Charlotte Brändström (OUTLANDER).

This should be exciting news for fans of the WITCHER series, knowing that Geralt will be played by none other than Superman himself. My knowledge of the series comes from playing bits of the video games, which are fun for what they are. The show could be pretty cool and act as Netflix’s own GAME OF THRONES, and if you’re going to mix GOT and Superman you can bet your ass I’ll be there.
