Henry Cavill will give the people of Earth an ideal to strive towards in the new trailer for Man of Steel

Apr. 16, 2013by: Niki Stephens

Oh man. I cannot tell you how fantastic this trailer is.

There is plenty of new footage here. We start from the beginning with Jor-El and his wife Lara discussing Kal-El's decent to Earth then follow the journey from there. Plenty of narration from Russell Crowe as well as some from Amy Adams as we get into the second half of the trailer when she is on the hunt for Clark. There is so much emotion here, and this certainly creates some exceptional hype for the movie. I wanted to mention the other day that Michael Shannon was a terrific choice for Zod.

I think this is something we all definitely need to see-- a hero.

Synopsis: A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind.

MAN OF STEEL starring Henry Cavill, Michael Shannon, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Russell Crowe and Antje Traue flies into theaters on June 14th, 2013.

Finally!!!!

For the longest time i've wanted to see a Superman film where he actually got to show off all af the tremendous feats that only he can pull off and it looks like there will finally be one. I remember watching the Matrix reloaded and thinking wow if they can do this with Neo I can't wait to see what they will be able to pull off with the next Superman, only to be extremely dissapointed to high hell with Singers treatment. I mean the climax is superman picking up a big rock and throwing it

Henry Cavill

Each trailer and image of Henry Cavill as Superman just seems more...natural I guess? Like it was meant to be. Michael Shannon is going to get a lot of attention as Zod but I think Cavill is going to blow a lot of people away.

Yes, obviously I'm going to see this...

...but maybe it's just me but I don't get the "joke" of the interrogation scene. It feels like something got edited out that would have it make more sense.

Lois Lane: "How about Su-"
*loud feedback*
*both look toward two-way mirror*
Superman: "Excuse me."

Huh?

Pretty sure its just editing to make it seem like he says "excuse me" to set up the final cut in the trailer where he punches that figure guy really hard as he flies through the sky to end the trailer." In the movie I would bet its the point where he decides to leave his voluntary captivity, maybe due to Zod or the Krypton chick showing up.

Hmmm, not sure why Lois coining the name Superman for the first time would produce interrupting feedback from the next room, or why Kal-El would accept blame for it. Oh well, guess I'll jst have to see the movie to find out!

Lois gave him the name superman and the feedback your hearing is when Zod tells earth to have superman surrender which was the previous trailer. That is the symbol for the house of El and on kyrpton in kryptonian it stands for hope. Superman has super hearing and can hear when zod sends his message to earth which is at the same time he is getting interogated about what he is doing here on earth people.

Thank you Snyder!

As a guy who has a full knee to ankle Superman tattoo and have been obsessed with the character, ideals and passion that has gone into the books....I just flipped my shit! This trailer has everything a Superman has needed on the big screen. The whole mystery behind a man who is a savior and a ghost is intriguing. I really dig the Tabloid style hunt Lois goes on to find this man/myth. But the two scene stealing moments for me is the attack in Smallville with the A-10 Warthogs and how Kal moves

The moment where he states "you think your son is safe" and his battle cry....gave me a chill. This is going to be DC's, Iron Man. Setting up a word, mythology and hopefully the Trinity...

If this is the direction of DC from now on, then I am on board.

DC has always been more operatic than Marvel. DC treats its characters like heroes of Greek mythology, and that is why I have always preferred DC. This trailer delivers just that.

I've personally never been a big fan of the direction Nolan took Batman, as he stripped away this aspect of Batman & turned him into a James Bond-like character. But Nolan claims to have never been a comic book fan, so he grounded Batman in a world he understood. Snyder & Goyer, on the other hand, are major comic

Combining these fanboy filmmakers with Nolan's grasp of solid story structure looks to finally deliver a true representation of everything I love about DC Comics. This is the first time a DC movie looks to have gotten it right.

Only thing I don't understand from the talkbacks, is where in the movie does it show that everyone knows Superman is Clark Kent. There are references to someone knowing Clark has powers when he's a child, but that's really it. If everyone is basing it off the scenes of Clark using his powers out of costume while fishing, that's hardly enough proof to jump to that assumption. One iteration of the characters origin is that before he ever became Superman or moved to Metropolis, he simply

One iteration of the characters origin is that before he ever became Superman or moved to Metropolis, he simply travelled the world and helped people. No one ever saw him or spoke to him or knew him, but this myth of their being an angel like being helping people emerged. Finally Clark becomes Superman and the rest is history, maybe Snyder/Nolan are tapping into this part of the mythology. Fact is, the trailer looks amazing, not enough information to jump to conclusions. Only way to find out is to see the movie.

I've lost count of how many times I"ve watched this now. It's simply amazing, this is the Superman movie I've been waiting for. Can't wait to see this in theatres. Henry Cavil capture the character of Superman perfectly, Michael Shannon is amazing as Zod, Russell Crowe looks great as Jor-El, and Kevin Costner emits everything that I'd expect from a Jonathan Kent performance. The only person I was on the fence about was Amy Adams as Lois, from the trailer she looks like she's pulling it off,

The music is brilliant I think. I love that Zimmer didn't copy Williams' score and created something new and epic for this film. I think it works pefectly.
And the action sequences look amazing, finally a fight scene worthy of a Superman film (I'm looking at you Singer, and your garbage Superman movie).

Nice.

This trailer more than the others, really makes the story of Superman feel like an allegory for the story of Jesus. It hits pretty much all of the same plot points. That means Russell Crowe is God and Michael Shannon is Satan, which is the only kind of religion I'd be interested in.

HMMMMM

Looks interesting. I just cant help but think that Russell Crowe hasnt done anything inspiring with his new role. Just sounds like Gladiator all over again and the scripting seems dumbed down compared to the Marlon Brando script.
Michael Shannon looks to be having a fun time as ZOD though. Still preferred the glowing white suits for the house of EL. Simple and elegant for a superior race.

Great Trailer. A few things.
1) Cavill is a great Superman.
2) Amy Adams looks to be a perfect Lois Lane
3) The super punches at the end was awesome!
4) Krypton MUST be destroyed. If not I will be very, very disappointed.
5) The music is good, but not close to the league of Williams.
6) Was it me or does Krypton look like the "John Carter of Mars" world we should have got?
7) LEXCORP!

Clark's disguise works because Clark is a nobody. It's like in the Justice League where Lex Luthor unmasked The Flash to see his true identity, and after seeing the Flash's face, Lex's response was simply "I have no idea who you are".

Plus the glasses bit has been proven in a court of law that it works. They took a picture of Harrison Ford and put thick glasses on him, and no one could identify who he was. It was to disprove the fact that a woman could identify a man wearing glasses without

Still, I don't think I'll be bothered too much if some people knew who Clark was. But his disguise is to protect those he loves.

I think there should be a Clark, but Clark shouldn't be Lois' partner that she sees everyday. I think it would be good if he just worked at the Daily Planet, but remained low key. In today's day and age, he could even be a mild mannered reporter that works from home.

@MickLoud

In the trailer we see him, post-Superman (his beard shaved), using his powers out of costume in front of a group of people. Then Lois tells about Clark's early life (which is obviously her newspaper article on him).

Cav-il is Superman

Henry Cav-ill has nailed the part. Nailed it and how. Superman isnt super because of his god-like powers. He is super because inspite of having those powers, he is compassionate, polite, honest and a beacon of hope. its hard to do that when ur superman and henry cav-ill portrays that perfectly. maybe cav-ill IS from Krypton or somewhere like that...with a body like his...i wundnt be surprised.

im SOOOO amped for this film!!!! (jumps around the room)

thats a trailer folks, thats what trailers are made of. That opening song brought tears to my eyes, and when clark was like I wish you were my father and he said I am your father clark I nearly burst into tears. So touching this might be better than the dark knight. Dare I say. I am ready.

I was really on the fence about Henry Cavill as Superman, but I've changed my tune. The odd thing is that It wasn't the costume, or the special effects or anything visual that made me come around. It was hearing him speak in the costume. It just goes to show, that no matter how big the movie is or how incredible the special effects are, it still comes down to acting. Fucking love how the Kryptonian scene's look really alieny. Especially when Kal-El was being sent off with all of those Alien machinery and what not, reminded me a lot of Fire in the Sky. Can't wait for this movie! 2 MORE MONTHS!

I think Michael Shannon is going to steal the show. Crowe is just as powerful an actor when he's reserving himself - amazing. Eyes almost watered at the "pretend I'm your son" line and it's only the freakin' trailer!

I'm on board for this 120%. I'm really loving the tone they're going for. I don't think it's "dark and gritty" as much as "relatable" and perhaps even credible. "Can I keep pretending I'm your son" "You are my son!" was such a heartbreaking moment. It would be cool if they somehow managed to give Terrence Stamp a cameo, though. As for the origin of Superman's name, I love the version in The Animated Series, in which Lois says "He's strong. He flies. He's the Nietzschean fantasy ideal all

So far it looks like Snyder and Cavill are going to resurrect Superman like Nolan and Bale did with Batman.

Hell yeah!! Already watched it about a dozen times.

Who needs John Williams when you have Hans Zimmer? ;)

Based on the trailer, looks like we might get actually some action in this movie... something that was sorely missing in Superman Returns. And with any luck, a decent storyline with characters we actually care about. Also.... Michael Shannon, you magnificent bastard.

I dunno man... being a musician, I for one was worried about the score, and I really like what Zimmer has done here so far. It's suitably epic sounding without aping Williams' iconic march. I would't call Zimmer's music bland. At least they didn't get Danny Elfman.

God Damn

Veeery cool. I know there've been rumors about this tying in with The Dark Knight Trilogy. Wondering how those films will fit with this, given the far grander, galactic scope (vs. grounded/gritty TDK). IF that's what WB & Co. are in fact trying to do, of course. They'd do fine starting off clean with this film.
In any case, cool trailer. Also, caught JP in 3D this weekend, and the second MOS trailer played in 3D. Also very cool.

Great trailer. Was a bit worried with Goyer scripting (just watched the first ep of Da Vinci's Demons and the writing is so bad) but this is an excellent way to assuage my fears. And what I assume is the Zimmer score sounds incredible.

I agree. David Goyer has never impressed me as a writer. He has benefitted from the contributions of some very talented co-writers to salvage his screenplays. The scripts where he was the primary writer tend to be of low quality. Even Batman Begins had some groaner lines that were likely from his draft. The sequels only gave him a story credit. I would like to believe Chris Nolan oversaw some rewrites, because I don't trust David Goyer alone.

Loving the theme I'm hearing in the background. And it's good to finally see Superman get what he deserves--a big budget spectacle with an emotional story behind it.

I can safely say this is going to rock all kinds of shit! I was kinda bummed that The Dark Knight saga had to end last year, but this will definitely fill the void, and then some.

P.S. Really digging what seems to be Hans Zimmer's score in the trailer!!! He really can do no wrong!
