Henry Cavill would like to see Superman and Batman in a movie together

May. 24, 2013by:

MAN OF STEEL impresses me more and more with each new trailer. While I am still reserved from expecting too much, the most recent footage looks like the most action-oriented Superman we have ever seen in a movie. Plus, with WB stating that the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie hinges on MAN OF STEEL's reception and box office, all hands are on deck for DC.

But, it has been said multiple times in the talk backs, DC should not do a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie yet because, well, the DC characters aren't all that great once you get past the big two: Superman and Batman. So, why not do the logical first step and make a WORLD'S FINEST movie instead?

MAN OF STEEL star Henry Cavill himself was asked that question by SFX and this was his response:

I think it would be really interesting with the age-old Batman/Superman conflict, he tells SFX, because they are two different sides of the same coin and their methods are entirely different. And I think it would actually make for an interesting story as to why, first of all, they were going head to head and how. I think that would make a great story.

Cavill seems to be as much of a comic book fan as anyone who has played a superhero, which makes me like him even more. Cavill is a big nerd at heart and even almost missed out on getting the role of Superman because he was too busy playing World of Warcraft to answer Zack Snyder's phone call.

Batman and Superman or Batman vs. Superman seems to be the logical choice for building up the DC cinematic universe. I would rather them get these two icons on the same page and build up their love/hate friendship before delving into a larger team. Plus, you can introduce a new Batman that way without doing a solo movie.

MAN OF STEEL opens on JUne 14, 2013.

OK HERES THE THING......

Heres the thing..The Man of Steel isn't going to be a good or even great movie just because they made the world of Superman more 'real' like Nolan's take on the Batman. I hope they know what the fans and in fact everyone wants from there superhero movies now. And actually what the die hard fans want is really what your typical audience wants too, its just that your 'general' audience just doesn't know it. Yes we want it to be more 'real world' but we also want MORE MYTHOLOGY and MORE CAMEOS to

And actually what the die hard fans want is really what your typical audience wants too, its just that your 'general' audience just doesn't know it. Yes we want it to be more 'real world' but we also want MORE MYTHOLOGY and MORE CAMEOS to show a BIGGER UNIVERSE!! Ok, yes we want a great story that's just not your typical meet good guy, then meet bad guy, good guy beat bad guy THE END...sorry but we need more twists and turns but all that is a given...we want a great story, we want it to make sense to us or be almost believable; like they could actually exist in our world....BUT again what the directors and or the studios may not grasp is that we want the WHOLE CAKE and yes we WANT TO EAT the dang thing..LOL..
but moreover this movie and movies like it need more mythology of the character, lay it on thick!!, and then begin to throw in other characters from the DC Universe...yes right away...don't hesitate to put these characters in the movie (I know its already made, so it is what it is) even in the form of cameos. It gives us something to look forward to when the sequel comes out and its more satisfying too. I always hated when a movie totally misses a fantastic opportunity to throw other characters in there...it may not make a huge splash at first but when people start talking, esp us geeks, that they cameo-ed a someone else in the move, word gets around fast and the DC geeks are really the ones to start the hype that spreads. Look all us fans of comic book movies from way back knew that getting superhero's together in the same movie would be a huge hit but its taken many YEARS for the studios to catch onto this...I mean even after Batman 1989, the major studios still didn't understand they could make a huge superhero movie and make serious money with it....so they're slow on trends. And with WB having the rights to ALL DC's intellectual properties its a no brainer...but it remains to be seen if they know how to weave all their characters together properly. They've done SO WELL with DC Animated movies...I mean really well!! I don't know if they make huge amounts of money from them but when I say 'well' I mean that they are really really great!! I mean, I usually don't wait a day, when a DC animated movie comes out, to watch it. So I know someone handling DC knows what they are doing....have those people come aboard for the movies at least as consultants

No Justice League just Supes vs Bats

If they could get Bale back for one more outing that would be amazing if not then fair enough. But if Warner and DC had any smarts they would pay Bale whatever he wanted because if Man o' Steel is a huge success, chances are it will be, then they would make a killing doing Batman vs Superman. I would hope to see the Kryptonite fist from the dark knight returns come into play.

Well of course Henry Cavill would like to do a Superman/Batman movie. I assume he likes money.

Yeah, it will an interesting story indeed, Mr. Cavill. I'd love to watch that movie.

This will be a more impressive feat than Avengers

I am not hating on "Avengers". I personally think it is one of the best blockbuster action movies to come out in a while.

If Nolan takes over in over seeing all of DC, turns around the Green Latern movie, introduces the remainder characters in worthy movies then makes Justice League...he truly is a movie God.

As long as it's not a Superman/John Blake teamup. Also Faora is gorgeous.

What is the point

What is the point of a Justice League movie? Man of Steel looks like a nice fresh take on Superman. They should focus on making the next 3 Superman films and make a few more Batman films.

By the way if they do decide to do Justice League or a Batman/Superman crossover, I'd rather it not be Nolan's version of Batman but instead more like the one in Arkham Asylum.

Superman --Batman

I wouldnt mind this match up,...granted its not the greatest idea in the movie world...but since there is a comic series with the two of them...I could see it happening.

Three points:
(1) Neither character uses a gun, and they don't kill people. I'm not sure they're different enough to want to fight each other without it feeling forced.
(2) Making a Superman vs. Batman movie would be a good way to transform a bada$$ Batman established by Nolan into a weak Captain America standing next to Thor or Hulk.
(3) A JL movie is a bad idea.

> Neither character uses a gun, and they don't kill people.

Superman doesn't know this. In the Nolan films, Batman was accused of killing people at the end of The Dark Knight and at the end od The Dark Knight Rises Bane WAS killed by a machine gun belonging to Batman. (Recall that Catwoman was on the Batpod.)

In any case, it would be easy enough for the Penguin and Lex Luther to frame Batman for murder thereby bringing heroes into conflict.

I don't see Penguin or Lex Luther having much influence over Superman. Why would Superman trust either of them? Again, it would feel forced.

(1) Superman does kill on occasion.
(2) Nolans batman is far from the badass that Batman is in the comics.
(3) There are no such things as bad ideas, its how they do it that matters.

I agree. A World's Finest is the best route for WB/DC to go. It's a great way to build up to a Justice League movie. But first reboot Batman right, so that he fits in this world better than Nolan's version did.

Iffy

Sound great in theory. Nolan and Snyder are passionate about the characters. The studios are passionate about MONEY. I wouldn't trust any mash up film without Nolan and Snyder onboard.

Nolan isn't passionate about these characters at all. Batman was his "for the studio" films, the guaranteed money makers that will buy him leverage to make his own movies.

Nolan didn't care for Batman, he completely changed who Batman is, both figuratively and literally. He has publicly said that he was never a fan of comics, and he doesn't understand Superman. His name is only on MoS film to sell it. He even took his vacation during production & post production. During pre-production he

A World's Finest movie would work so much better than a Justice League movie. Please keep Wonder Woman and all that other silly shit away from the functioning "realistic" Batman and Superman universes that could potentially co-exist perfectly well.

I would rather see a Supes/Bats movie rather than a JL movie. I'll apologize to fanboys for saying this, but the Justice League has always seemed a bit childish and silly to me. It'd be different if they all had some type of connection like the Avengers (Stark Industries), but they don't.

I would love for this to happen, even as an idea put on the table for planning. Henry Cavill seems like a pretty cool dude, and would love to play Injustice with him.

Worlds finest petition!

I want nothing more than to see a film with just Batman and Superman in it WB. If anyone else feels the same just hit the like button and maybe WB will notice. In time a Justice league movie would be fine ,BUT first just BATMAN & SUPERMAN!

Actually, Nolan is producing Man of Steel, and supervising the build up to a Justice League movie, so it's a good bet that he would be involved in this project if it ever comes to fruition. Whether it will exist within the continuity of his Dark Knight trilogy however, is left to be seen.

Maybe make a World's Finest film before Justice League and have everyone else but Superman and Batman make cameos or be referenced in some way so that they're foreshadowing for all of these characters to come together for Justice League. Maybe have Worlds's Finest end on a cliffhanger threat of an ending that would lead to the WHOLE team joining together.

I swear if done right, I really believe that DC could give us a Justice League film that could be better than The Avengers.

It sounds good and I'm glad that Cavill is open to the idea of the expanded DCU on film. And it seems like he has put some logical thought into how to best make that happen. Whether the studios will listen? who knows?
And I know you're just referencing the talkbacks in your article, but I disagree with your point that the other characters in the DCU aren't that great. I think they could salvage the Green Lantern film property if they put it into the hands of a capable writer and/or

I think they could salvage the Green Lantern film property if they put it into the hands of a capable writer and/or director. Flash could make for a great solo film. And same with Wonder Woman. If they concentrate more on making a great stand alone film to showcase these characters and have the larger universe tie in material take a back seat to the actual hero's story they could still do a great job of establishing this universe without having to focus on Batman and Superman. WB, unlike Marvel, just needs to take a leap of faith with their characters.

Maybe it's because I'm not a comic book reader but I never got the whole Batman vs/and Superman thing. Unless Supes accidentally swallowed some Kryptonite why would he fear (or need help from) a rich guy in a suit with some gadgets?

I wouldn't mind that at all

However I would still want to see DC build their cinematic universe first and give us a flash movie an a Wonder Woman movie and go into justice league, reboot batman, maybe even at the point where dick is already nightwing and Jason Todd is robin, that way we can see a death in the family

That would be awesome. If/when they do reboot Batman, I would like them to explore the Robin history of Batman. I think it would be cool to have Dick Grayson in a movie as Robin, in the sequel he's become Nightwing and Jason Todd is Robin who dies at the end, in the third Tim Drake steps in as Robin. You can branch that universe in itself out into numerous other properties: a Nightwing solo film, Teen Titans/Young Justice movie with Tim Drake. If you make them good enough, you make a fourth

Cavill and everyone else. However, I think a better idea might be a Trinity movie, introducing Wonder Woman, as a lead-up to a Justice League film. It will be able to combine a World's Finest film and a Wonder Woman solo outing.
