Here's a clear look at the new suit being used in Iron Man 3

3 years agoby:

Iron Man 3 comic con header

Today THE AVENGERS twitter treated us to a first look at the new suit being used for IRON MAN 3.  Seen at Comic-Con along with each and every past suit worn by Tony Stark, there's a distinct dearth of Iron Man's traditional red to be found in the new design.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, it just is what it is.  So what say you, Marvel movie devotees?

And while we're on the subject of Tony Stark's snazzy suits, make sure to stay tuned for more details from our crew at the Con on this site!

Looks like they reversed the red and yellow parts. I don't think I like it.

Um, why?

So is there a reasoning behind this rather significant color change? (I've never read the comics so maybe this is how it should look)

Never like this in Extremis Comics!

There is NO reason this suit should have more YELLOW/GOLD than RED! The Extremis story line from Warren Ellis (which Iron Man 3 is being largely based on) had no such color change, costume/suit differences, yes but NOT that. If they reverse the colors on that suit, I'd be happier, but what the hell do I know, right? My opinion doesn't make changes for the movies and so far the STORY is what has made the money and popularity of Marvel in the Pre-Avengers movies so why not trust them in

I still find this is.... Off.

I don't mind it. If you are going to change his suit every movie you might as well do something unique. And hey, I think it is reasonable that he will put on something else (perhaps more traditional) in the movie too.
In the comics he is going from Red and Yellow to Black and Yellow soon... so that Red apparently ins't as integral as people seem to think/wish.

Of course he didn't start off with a red one because he was still building it, but once he finally finished his suit and became Iron Man, it was red.

Nooo... he started off with two silver suits. Then got one with red and gold - then another without any gold (suitcase one)...
Wait, you might be referring to the comic books. In which case, still no. He started off with all silver, all gold, and then some weird ones sprinkled throughout.
My point being, if you think it is ugly, that's cool, but the color scheme gets messed with all the time - so who cares this time?

Additional point. Has there been a comic book movie that hasn't had people complain about the costumes/look? Amazing Spider-man, Watchmen, X-men, Captain America, Batman Begins, Dark Knight (Batman and Joker design), Dark Knight Rises (Bane and Catwoman)...
How many times must people complain about the costumes, and the movie still be good (repeat my list from above for examples), before people sit back and wait?
This is just par for the course.

You're right, but if the movie is good it does mean you'll get over it.
Nobody says, "Man, the Dark Knight was good, but I boy it would have been better if Batman's suit was different." or "Boy the Avengers was amazing, but can you imagine how good it would have been if Captain America's ears were showing like in the comics?!"

Just because the movie is good dosnt mean the costumes arent still terrible.

The thing is, it looks like crap and this isn't a new new take on Iron Man.

I'm digging it I must say. I like the old school gold. Smart way to change up the suits and make each one unique.

It looks like one of the ten repaints they gave the action figure. "Desert Warfare Iron Man". The whole point of the original design was an eye-catching red with gold highlights, and with the flipping of the colour palette you get a predominantly dull, bland gold with little definition to bring out the detail of the armour.

More importantly he's gone back to the round power source on his chest. Hated the triangle.

I'm reminded of that line in "Iron Man" when his suit is first rendered by JARVIS and its all gold. Stark says "a little ostentatious don't you think?"

Well, its pretty clear that since Stark has embraced the Iron Man persona, the manifestations of his ego have only become more extravagant. I mean, wouldn't yours just a bit if you found out you could go toe-to-toe with F-22 jets, Norse Gods, and a flying Godzilla space worm?

So yeah, 'fresh from a life threatening shrapnel wound' Tony

So yeah, 'fresh from a life threatening shrapnel wound' Tony Stark wouldn't wear an all-gold suit...but 'just nuked an alien invasion' Tony Stark? Yeah, he would.
